When I applied for my role, I was told at the interview that there were 3 vacancies in the same box. I’ve ended up being offered not the one I actually applied for but one of the other 2. To do this they had to create another listing and it’s that one I have been given. The original listing I’m showing as unsuccessful. I expect that what’s happened to you maybe?
That would be amazing! But I don't want to get ahead of myself lol.
I'll keep everything crossed and hang fire for an email I guess.
I did wonder if they had created an application for one of the 4 new posts being advertised? Would be strange to be interviewed so soon by the same LOM for the same position - or maybe not?
I wish I hadn't looked now !

Can anyone shed a bit of light on this for me (to which I would be very grateful)

2 different applications made for 2 different roles, went through the tough questions part online & passed to my relief (after falling at that hurdle before!) Both applications now have status as test completed which stays on file for 12 months & will be in contact "shortly"regarding applications. Only thing is now that one of these was dated 6th April & other beginning of May! Do I take it that with all things Corona going on the process for interviews has been put on hold?

I would have thought the recruitment team are on minimum staffing or even working from home at the moment, so progress through the stages is going to be slower than usual - as you’ll know it’s a very long and slow process as it is, you can be sat at each stage for months without any information.

Rest assured though, if your successful at a particular stage they will be in touch, it just might take longer than normal.

Good luck!

Liverpool IECC and Paignton SB have both gone on the external site this morning, along with a number of East Anglian labelled at Ely.

Paignton is nice yes (so I’m told), the “SB” is an office behind the ticket office in the station building.

It oversees the level crossing outside the station, and few signals towards Newton Abbot, the interface between NWR and the Paignton Steam Railway and carriage Sidings.

Not much of a train service (under normal circumstances) but enough to keep you busy, I assume 8 & 12hrs with minimal or even no night turns.

Exeter Panel or Exmouth SB Relief cover it as required.

An excellent path into Exeter panel, or even Plymouth and beyond.

Was half tempted to apply myself. If it was a 12 hour roster I definitely would have. (Just to clarify, I am happy with any roster at all if it was commutable) But as it is a 2 hour drive from where I live I would stay in an Air Bnb during my blocks. Unfortunately on an 8 hour roster that is not financially feasible.

Totally agree, if your going to do a lodge job (like I did to get my foot in the door) you really need a straight 12hr roster, 8hrs isn’t viable unless your renting a house on the long term.

Paignton is open 24/7 on a 12 hour roster. Non Covid is a surprisingly busy box for a Grade 2.

Apologies for the super-bone question here, but how is ROC pronounced, 'Rock' or 'R-O-C'? I'm guessing the former due to the existence of 'pebbles' but I don't want to sound a berk if I ever get to an interview, thank you :D

“Welcome to the ROC” sounds so sinister, many a Alcatraz prisoner heard the same think I expect....

“Welcome to the Pebble” sounds so much more 2020, all light and lovely.

In that case I will give some serious consideration to applying. Do you happen to have an example of the roster or would it be similar to 12hr rosters posted on here previously?

I am trying to gauge costs of a room on Air BnB but with Covid going on there is nothing showing online unsurprisingly.

Lastly, is it wise to mention in a cover letter that I plan to lodge during my blocks or would this put a hiring manager off?

Thanks

Afternoon,

I have today received my email from HR in regards to my virtual assessments and interviews for North East future opportunities. In April 2020 I completed the SHL tests online and met the benchmark for a different signaller role (this vacancy is still live). I was under the impression that my SHL test scores would remain for 12 months and remain on file so I would not need to complete them again for 12 months, is that the case or not? I have queried this with HR over email and they state that I need to do the test again for each application. I don't mind doing it again but it means me adding some more extra bits into my revision that I wasn't prepared for and I would rather concentrate on the other aspects having already completed and met the SHL benchmark.

Hi Questiontime,

I had the same query as you. It looks like they are recruiting slightly differently for this vacancy. I have also completed the usual shl tests and they are currently still valid. The current ones have been taken into consideration for a couple of applications that are also still live.

However this is different. I have also applied for one of these roles and completed the tests and scenario that you have been sent. I can tell you they are still psychometric tests but they are different to the ones you have already sat. I know where you are coming from but to proceed with this application I had to do them.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for clearing that up, it just confused me slightly as I had previously received an email saying the score would remain on my file for 12 months and then I have been asked to do it again. Looks like i'm doing some extra revision. Best of luck with your application Dave.

Thanks, you too. I was also a bit confused so I also emailed HR and was advised that I would have to do the tests. I think these extra tests are specific to this role only so if you apply for any other positions then they will count your original tests.

Dave,

That's good to know, thanks for that.
Keep me updated on how you get on.

Would your plan be to do this permanently or just as a stopgap until you can move to the area?

Have read recent posts about the new 10 week signalling school, has anyone any idea what the backlog is for getting new starters a place at school?

My son was successful in his application and got the formal job offer in March and obviously is now waiting patiently for a place at school to get his start date, any info greatly appreciated.
