I doubt they will go to Skipton either as certain coaches have to be locked out for Skipton working as I recall reading somewhere on this board previously.
One coach currently has to be locked out for a rake of mark 4s to go to Skipton. However, as the plan is for two coaches to be knocked out of each set, that will cease to be a requirement.

At present a set of mark 4s is unable to call at Shipley when going to/from Skipton. Does that restriction also apply to a 5 coach 80x? If not, are they planned to call at Shipley on Skiptons? If so, that could preclude hauled sets going there.

Mark 4s used to call at Shipley when going from Skipton towards Leeds (well, until an Azuma took over that working earlier this year). The call was pick-up-only anyway, and I believe operated under local door operation.

Skipton-bound LNERs do not currently call at Shipley, regardless of stock.

The Harrogate services, when things return to normal,(next week?) should be formed of 2 five cat IET's,one electric only (801/1) and the other bi-mode (800/2)They will split in Leeds with the bi-mode set continuing to Harrogate and the electric only set remaining in Leeds to join up with the next arrival from Harrogate, couple up and return to London.
When MK4's go to Skipton the quiet coach at the front or rear depending on which way you are travelling is locked out of use due to the short platforms at Keighley and Skipton. At Shipley, local door operation is in force,ie everyone boards through one door.
MK4's to Bradford is not an issue as the reversible platform 3 is used at Shipley which can accomodate the full train. The only problem that can occur is if the train is signalled into the wrong platform at Shipley (platform 4 - will accomodate the loco and leading three coaches) which has occurred in the past.
With the IET's,selective door operation is in force, which is pre-set into the system,so can work anywhere in theory. The driver releases the doors and conductor closes them. All the driver has to do is to stop in the correct place!

That would seem to be the best way to do it. Cutting two standard carriages would be too much of a loss to capacity?

It would look stupid :D like the Pendo back when they were 8-car.

Clagmonster has got it. I wasn't expecting the Mark IVs to go to Skipton due to the need to lock coaches out, its a lot of trouble I expect. However if the removal of coaches means this isn't needed anymore then they might as well.

If thats not all then it would be easier to leave the Mark IVs running between Leeds and London only and removal all the complications of operating to Skipton and send the Class 80xs there only.

Both mk4 sets and the new things have been working to Skipton. Back in the days of normality, it was normally a mk4 set in the morning and a 9 car 800 in the evening.

A 5 car would do in the evening, but under normal conditions would not be adequate for the morning as a 9 car set is fairly busy before Leeds.

A 153 would be enough in the evening! I only ever see a handful of passengers on the train beyond Leeds.
