I attended an assessment at the OPC in Watford just before lockdown for a trainee driver post.
I passed all the tests and MMI on the day and was offered a position however the TOC is open access and currently not running services which means my start is indefinitely delayed, if it actually goes ahead.
I have been offered a date for what sounds like an MMI (they’ve called it a competency based interview) with another TOC next week, should my OPC pass still be valid?
Just wondering if it’s worth mentioning to them.

Definitely worth mentioning. If it's the MMI then it counts for all TOCs. But this sounds like you have been offered a DMI, rather than an MMI.

This is from the invite email. The guide they have referred to talks about the STAR technique so I did think it could be the MMI

The DMI is generally a competency-based interview too with a lot of TOCs, so as heedfan mentioned, this is probably a DMI invite. My DMI was referred to as a 'competency-based interview' back when I was going through my process.

You have already passed the mmi , so this definitely sounds like a dmi. The dmi is similar to the mmi as it does have competency questions . The dmi usually has questions like , why do you want to be a train driver and what do you know about the company as well.

All interviews are competency based per se, but in this environment, a Competency Based Interview or CBI is certain TOCs’ version of an MMI (I know Virgin/Avanti use CBIs.....not sure who it is you have the invite for?). If it is a DMI, generally they’d call it this? If it is a CBI and thus part of the psychometric assessments, unfortunately you’ll have to take this again, even though it’s fundamentally the same thing, as you cannot transfer MMI/CBI results.

It’s certainly worth finding out, as the email you received does look like it’s referring to a DMI, but I’ve only ever know a TOC to actually call the interview a CBI if it’s part of the psychometric assessments.

As others have said, an MMI is valid for all TOCS for at least three years, in some cases up to five.

Both MMI and DMI are competency-based interviews (at least with most TOCs) so this is likely to be for a DMI.

If you are unsure, it's worth checking with them.

I hope that this is helpful.

Unless this is a CBI as a psychometric test, as I said above. In which case, he wouldn’t be able to use his MMI pass for this TOC as the two aren’t transferable if you like.

I had this exact same issue a while back. I emailed the OPC & they replied: With regards to the current OPC process; although you have a current MMI pass, we will be asking you to do a CBI interview. This exercise will over-write your existing MMI result and could turn your existing ‘pass’ into a ‘fail’. If you pass the CBI you then can’t apply for a TOC that asks for an MMI without retaking it like you are doing with this CBI.

Hope this helps.

What a nightmare system.
Amazing neither the MMI or CBI satisfy the standards of the other, and that only a single result may exist on your record at one time.

I have a CBI pass on file, but I'm not sure how many TOCs use CBI. MMI seems more common, any one able to confirm that?

Definitely the MMI is more common. Everyone TOC I’ve ever heard except for Avanti use it. They use CBI.

Thanks for all the replies.
move emailed the HR contact I have at the TOC and they weren’t aware I’d passed the OPC tests and MMI.
I still have to do the interview next week but they’re contacting OPC for my results.
Thanks again.
