That looks like the fella but it was frnced off as it seemed to run through the entrance gate to the old brickworks. It is an actual road

Ah. Possibly it has been formally closed, or possibly, as is often the case, they just closed it anyway because there's no real purpose of it because it randomly ends in the middle of the brickworks!

The village of Queen Adelaide, to the North of Ely, has three level crossings, known as Peterborough (red), Lynn (yellow) and Norwich (blue) gates.
A small part of the village between the Peterborough and Lynn gates is completely locked in by the two crossings, with the exception of a farm track.

Barnes Common cricket ground on Vine Road is between two crossings on the lines to Waterloo. Youngest was very amused to be trapped between the trains!

The quite substantial Queen Adelaide suburb of Ely is bisected by three separate busy, un-coordinated level crossings, for which no easy alternatives exist, making not only connecting to the outside world difficult but even between the separate parts of the village.

If we're going down to individual house level there's Church Farm in Bramfield which is only accessible by an accommodation crossing or a footpath with two stiles.

There was a company I used to visit near Thatcham that was accessed via a level crossing. We got a letter from BR asking the company's suppliers not to reverse articulated lorries over the crossing! I only drove a transit in there but I think it was the only way into that road for heavy vehicles.

On the industrial estate past Colthrop crossing presumably?

Further to post 11, in North Wales, road access to:
  • Marine Drive and the beach at Deganwy is only possible by vehicle via the LC north of Deganwy station.
  • The Cardigan Bay coast from Mochras (Shell Island) past Morfa Dyffryn sand dunes as far as Afon Ysgethin is only accessible by vehicle via LCs just south of Llanbedr station, just north of Dyffryn Ardudwy station and at Ffordd Benar.

Eaton Crossing, between Norwich and Wymondham, gives access to a piece of land between two river bridges and the river. There is just one dwelling, the former signallers house.

There are a number of small areas accessible only via a level crossing along the west Wales line between Kidwelly and Ferryside, including Kidwelly Quay and Carmarthen Bay Holiday Park.

I remember reading somewhere that Burton on Trent had more LCs than any other British town, and hoped that this might mean one or two surviving islands, but a look at the online OS seems to show that they've all gone (unless I've misread the map, which isn't unknown).

And the Deganwy Quay housing estate, marina and hotel is only accessible by vehicle via the other LC south of Deganwy station. Two for the price of one!

This was on the Great British Railway Journeys (think that's what it's called, one with Michael Portillo anyway) program repeated last week! Was due to all the brewery lines, which have long been closed.

The village of Kirksanton in Cumbria is sandwiched between two level crossings on the Cumbrian Coast line with no other access.

Theres a lot of houses northwest of Ashtead station only accessible by using the level crossing at Ashtead station if driving.

And it looks like that estate will be completely cut off from the UK road network on the first weekend of September, as network rail undertake work to upgrade that level crossing.

It will also mean the estate gets its own “level crossing replacement bus service”. The idea is so that residents’ cars can park at the station car park on the other side to avoid being stranded, with the bus providing journeys for those with heavy shopping.

Ashtead track and level crossing renewal
Engineering work will take place in the Ashtead area to upgrade the track and Woodfield Lane level crossing over the course of the weekend Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 September
Ashtead-renewals.jpg

No trains will run from Ashtead station for the duration of the work (01.00 on Saturday 5 September to 05.00 on Monday 7 September).
A rail replacement bus service will be in place.
Please check with your train operator – South Western Railway or Southern.
What are the benefits of the work?
This project is designed to improve the reliability of the track and train performance. We will install corrosion resistant sleepers and rail through the level crossing, reducing the need for future maintenance work. Engineers will also reduce the gap between the train and platform, providing a safer station environment.
What are you doing for passengers and local residents who will be inconvenienced by the work?
Residents will be able to park at Ashtead station car park, free of charge from 00:01Friday 4 September until 23:59 Monday 7 September. A mini-bus taxi service will be provided to take residents on the north side of the crossing between the station and home if required (running from the north side of the station footbridge), and a dedicated contact number for residents will be made available. We are making all the necessary arrangements with emergency services in case access is required while the work takes place.
Will the work be disruptive for local residents?
Unfortunately, in addition to the service disruption and closure of the level crossing, the work is likely to be noisy at times. The work involves removing old timber sleepers and installing modern concrete and high grade rail. There will also be some late-night, prep and follow-up work taking place from Monday 31 August to Friday 4 September and Monday 7 to Friday 11 September, as well as further checks later in October. We are sorry for the noise disruption this may cause to residents.

Frinton -on- sea Essex only accessed across the infamous level crossing gates[now barriers, was manned but controled from Colchester SB]
Although can get to Walton-on -the Naze via an unmade road and disrepaired bridge all unmarked.

Unless I've missed an obvious road, Rockley Park Holiday Park and a section of Hamworthy can only be accessed by two level crossings on the rarely-used Hamworthy Goods line

Not my corner of the world, but is there not an under bridge at Lake Road?

Update: May or may not be vehicle accessible... ;)

Reading th times it appears that free parking is available from midnight and the work starts at one, not long to move the car.

The small settlement of East Hewish near Weston-super-Mare is only accessible over a level crossing for the Bristol to Exeter line. So it’s cut off when the barriers are down. The railway spells the crossing differently from the village as ‘Huish’.
There are several Huish in West Somerset; villages, surnames, and a major school in Taunton. It seems that this is an unusual case where the settlement has twisted the spelling but the railway got the original right. Often it's the other way round.

Lydney Harbour industrial estate has only public access via the Lydney level crossing - according to maps there is an alternative route but I believe it's only via the adjacent golf club which is private land.

Not to mention Yeovil Town's stadium: Huish Park. Seems to be spelled that way in most cases, rather than the way of the crossing. One of those peculiar regional things a bit like how almost every village or town (or city even) west of Bristol has a main street called "Fore Street".

How do you access the cricket club in the triangle at Perry Barr?

I've played there several times - there's a foot crossing near the south end of the western chord and you have to park up outside the triangle and carry all your kit across to the changing rooms. Then cross again to get to and from the clubhouse for the tea break.

Further along the Cumbrian Coast, there are properties at Angerton Hall and Angerton (both between Kirkby-in-Furness and Foxfield stations) and again east of Green Road station that require LC access.

And beyond Millom, looks like the small coastal communities of Kirksanton, Silecroft (Western side) and Gutterby all require LC crossings to access by road.
The village of Kirksanton can be approached from two directions on the A5093 but from the north you must cross the railway at Limestone Hall crossing whilst from the south, you approach over Kirksanton crossing. There was a proposal many years ago for a bypass so that the traffic on the main road was not held up at the two crossings but this was tied in with a proposal for a Duddon crossing between Millom and Askam-in-Furness which has not been progressed.

Would say that the only part of Kirksanton that doesn't need LC access across the Cumbrian Coast line is that located near the (now closed?) Bankfield House Hotel.

Reckon that there may be a number of small railway 'islands' on the long sections of single line track between Machynlleth and the English border. Anyone able to confirm?

Not sure if this counts because all the accesses are grade separated, but it's a true railway island as it's in the middle of a triangle: Blythefield Park in Belfast (which even has a children's nursery) is entirely surrounded by the triangle formed by the Portadown lineto to Great Victoria Street, and the lines from both north and south towards Lanyon Place (former Central).

Was the recent level crossing accident on the Shrewsbury-Welshpool section not at an access which was the only way in?
