If someone doesn’t like a post because it is contrary to the forum rules, then please stop quoting or referring to these posts!

This is a very fast moving thread and chances are the forum staff will not see your post, and in any case once the report is reviewed and actioned it makes it significantly harder to deal with anything because we have to review all posts below.

You must use the report function, do not reply to or refer to such posts.

So shocked and saddened to hear this. My thoughts are with everyone onboard and at ScotRail

How come coastguard vehicles are being used?

The coastguard are emergency services and have a lot of experience in this. As far as i can gather the Coastguard Helicopter is helping with efforts. It is in a place where road access can be tricky at the best of times but as Stonehaven also flooded last night it isn't making life easier for the crews.

Scot Ambo Control have apparently asked for assistance from the air ambo from the NE and NW of England and NI.

yes train was running back after encountering a landslip, the location where it derailed could have been dislodged by anything after the train initailly passed hence why it was caught out on the way back. News from the scene is that is 3 crew and 6 passengers as indicated above. One crew member was at the local signal box and has been taken to hospital. that is all I can find out at present

Please could someone summarise what we know
What we know is that the 0638 Aberdeen - Queen Street has come off the tracks in the vicinity of Stonehaven. Two fatalities have been confirmed. Everything else, so far, is either speculation or unconfirmed.

This image is on Twitter of the overbridge with a powercar which appears to be intact.

43030 is the PC nearest.

Seems to me the "delay" between the train's departure at 0638 and the accident being reported at 0943 could be entirely explained by the time needed to stop at the reported landslip, decide to return to Aberdeen and put the necessary arrangements in place for wrong line running. It doesn't necessarily mean there was a delay in alerting emergency services once it happened.

I'm afraid we are being news-managed, always a bad sign.
Fatalities have not yet been confirmed.
Nicola Sturgeon had just said it's a very serious incident and that there are "serious injuries".
The BBC reporter on the spot is still not saying any more.
No close or aerial pictures.
Thoughts to those involved.

Careful. Sky News have just quoted this site as a source of their information. Paraphrasing “Rail Uk as an online forum for trainspotters”.

The foot of the embankment in the foreground also looks to have very recently failed. Unlikely to be causal to the incident given the extent, but worthy of note.
