With Storm Francis on the way, I anticipate there will be quite a lot of disruption across the country tomorrow.

In more detail, 50-60mph gusts expected widely across England and Wales. Doesn’t sound too much but trees are in full leaf, as well as the ground being saturated in places from recent heavy rainfall.

An additional risk is flooding, which will be most prevalent in Northern areas of England, Wales and northern parts of the Midlands. Other parts of the country, including Scotland, are still prone to large amounts of rainfall.

Let's hope everywhere stays safe. A few years ago I was on a Pacer which rocked after it was hit by a wave and high winds. Despite it's relatively light weight it stayed firmly on the track and all was well. Scary though!

Already timetable changes in place for Anglo-Scots tomorrow due to blanket speed restrictions.

The Met Office have just issued an Amber weather warning for strong winds for much of Wales and the Midlands.

Winds will shortly start to increase, after a relatively wet, but calm start to the day.

The Cambrian from Criccieth up is closed for high seas, Aberdare to Mountain Ash is underwater, and there's a few trees down across Cymru. On the positive side, the wind turbine outside my house is earning it's keep

Apart from rain and a few gusts of wind, everything seems okay here in the North East. Darlington shows every train on time on the National Rail site.

Wires down between Stafford and Crewe today, don't know if it was Francis' fault.

Understandably the situation will change as the storm passes through, but I'm aware of a number of fallen trees that have affected routes, in the East Midlands, throughout the day; also the odd tent on the line and a blanket speed restriction of 80 mph on the East Coast Main Line. Derby - Stoke currently affected by a fallen tree at Longton.

TfW journeycheck is currently showing several routes closed due to fallen trees (inc Crewe - Shrewsbury and both the Cambrian mainline and coast), and Llandudno Jcn - Bangor closed due to flooding (I understand that the A55 was also closed).

I left Chester early afternoon in relative calm, travelling to Llandudno Jcn, intending to catch the rail-replacement bus to Blaenau. The bus driver announced that he would only be going as far as Bettws as the road beyond was blocked by several fallen trees, so I caught the next train to Bangor. Fortunately we got through, but the sea level was the highest I have seen it, and the water in the fields bounding the railway was high too. According to my taxi driver, it rained here continuously and heavily all day, and a lot of roads are closed. It is still raining now, so I wouldn't be surprised if there are further problems tomorrow.

Landslip this morning at Buckshaw Parkway has closed the line between Bolton and Leyland.
Also flooding between Rochdale and Hebden Bridge has shut the line.

Looks like you got through just in time. Looking at some pictures it looks quite bad over in north Wales last night and according to tfw journey check the line between Bangor and Llandudno Junction is to remain closed until the end of the day.

Nightmare last night on Leeds to Chester. Left Leeds on 17:42 Northern Service to Chester due to arrive just after 20:00 and terminated at Todmorden due to flooding down the line. Waited for nearly 2 Hours for Rail Replacement to Rochdale in pouring rain with no toilet facilities. Fair play to the Station Manager who tried to keep everyone updated despite no information on Buses etc.

1 Hour to Rochdale with no Trains from Rochdale so Tram to Manchester for another hour and then a walk across Manchester with a lovely Polish Girl working as a Translator got me to Piccadilly for a 45 minute wait for the last train to Chester at 23:15. Arrived home wet and safe at 01:00.

At one point I was so exhausted and tired of waiting in Todmorden I went looking for a hotel for the night. All is well that ends well and tomorrow is another day. My son coming back from Leeds University Saturday 5 September so I'm hoping things sorted by then.
