Hi!
I recently had an interview for the role of conductor and received an email a few days later informing me I have met the requirements and the next step is a medical.

Does anyone know where this leaves me?
Am I likely to be called and then offered a position?
Or does this work on a talent pool basis.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated x

If you’ve been offered a medical providing you pass it the job is yours. It also means a course isn’t too far away.

thanks for getting back to me :)
I haven’t been given a date for a medical, they have told me they will be in touch with a date.

my email read as follows

‘The next stage of the recruitment process will be for you to attend a Medical. We will be in touch with you in due course to make the necessary arrangements.’

does this sound like standard procedure?

thanks again x

Yeah you’ve definitely passed the interview. They don’t tend to send you for a medical until just before the course is due to start. They haven’t said you’re in a talent pool so I’d assume you’ll get an email in the next couple of weeks with a date.
Congratulations :)

If the email has this in it ;

"We will keep your application for up to 9 months. If there are no suitable start dates during this period, your application will expire, and you will be required to submit a new application for any future vacancies."

Your'e in a talent pool and not guaranteed a job so keep that in mind. But you do get to reinterview after the nine months like I have.

Keep applying for other roles if they come up and dont pop all your eggs in one basket.

But also congratulations!

Hi! Yeah I’ve seen this on the forums but mine didn’t have that in, just said we will be in touch in due course, that’s what’s got me confused!
Thanks for your response :)

Congratulations Jess.

Out of curiosity - when did you first apply for the job?

Then i'd consider your email to be excellent news! Of course you haven't got a contract yet, but nonetheless very promising!

If you're being sent for a medical you're foot's in the door.
Medicals are a bit behind at the moment so could be a wait.

That's brilliant. May to September is a really good turn around for recruitment, considering the impact of the Coronavirus. Good luck and all the best.

Hi, did you here back about your medical in the end? I have recently just been successful for the conductor role too! My process from interview to contract didn’t take too long. So hopefully it’s been good news for you!

Congrats Jess. I recently decided on a career change and applied for the role of conductor at Blackpool North. I passed the assessment and then got an email basically saying due to Covid there is no training courses available in the foreseeable and my application has been put on hold.

It will be interesting to see where your application goes from here with them not being allowed to conduct training courses.

Hopefully it won’t be affected for too long for all our sakes!

That’s the frustrating part. I haven’t had an interview as they put me on hold just before that stage. I may be waiting however long to find out I won’t be invited to an interview. It would have been good if they’d progressed it to a successful candidate pool instead.

Thanks, I had my interview the last week of august. It took about 4 weeks from finding out I’d passed to getting my contract and booked on a training course. I’ll be based in Manchester.

Keep in mind it's a fair old trog from Leeds to Blackburn Jess,so be prepared for some early starts! (first one out of Blackburn to us leaves at sixish), hopefully by the time you've done your training we'll be back to Spring!

Yep I start in Leeds in a weeks time for training but I am from the north east I have checked and I am leaving at 6am, if the course doesn't finish by 4.30 I have to get a later train and i won't be back until 19.10 so I have a few long days ahead

You certainly do, probably best to sleep on the journey there if you can, and swat up what you've learned on the way back. It'll pass quick and before you know it your training will be done and you'll be cursing the passengers on the train you are working!

I don’t live in Leeds, that was the closest medical they could give me :)

I think she missed this comment?

It would be nice to know.
I've had a Train Driving interview, I can share them should you ever need them.
