No, 2 strikes and you’re out. The tests are there to assess your natural aptitude for learning and doing the job, which is unlikely to change over time.
Maybe you’re correct. However, there is quite a buzz around Leeds mess room lately regarding the above for guards who have failed the psychometrics previously.

Who knows

A lot gets said in mess rooms that should be taken with a VERY BIG pinch of salt.

Indeed. All I’m saying is don’t be too shocked when you start seeing some quite big changes in the near future.

Peace

Section 2.7.2 of the latest version of RSSB Rail Industry Standards for Train Driver Selection states that someone who has failed more than once will not be reconsidered unless there are extenuating and well documented circumstances. You need a login to access the document.

What date is this latest version. My colleague sat a retest only this week and he was definitely told that it’s 2 failed attempts at the assessment?. It’s always been 2 goes at the process from what is on this and other forums so can see it’s suddenly changed

The document quoted above doesn’t contradict that, it’s just worded slightly differently.

Correct. If you’ve failed more than once then you’ve failed twice, like I said in reference to section 2.7.2. (The wording I used about failing more than once is lifted from the document). You can, of course, sit and pass the tests as many times as you wish, but once you fail twice that is it.

Tests are done by the OPC. Its industry wide assessments not TOCs/FOCs. You carry out the tests set by them with certain companies wanting there own pass rate. Regardless of if a TOC/FOC sets up their own training establishment the criteria is set by them. For the 2 set rule to be reset, the OPC would have to amend or change their tests as 4/5 years ago where i believe peoples attempts were reset.

Unless this has changed please post response.

Also what makes you believe that this is the case with Northern???

As has been said, the 2 strikes rule will still apply here, regardless of whether a TOC takes the tests in-house. The only way they will be reset is if there’s another big shake up with the assessments with the RSSB as happened back in 2013. In which case, any previous attempts will be wiped.

The vacancy has being closed. Guessing they have filled the role with internals.

Just got an email saying York has been pulled ?

Hello both.

Had you sat the interview and OPC assessment centre before being told that the vacancy was no longer available, or had you only gone as far as submitting an application for the role?

Just wondering if anyone has heard back from the September advertisement for trainee drivers at Leeds yet? Had the two emails late September but nothing since:

Dear $¥€$¥

Thank you again for your application for the above role.

Your application is now under consideration and is being screened.

Please bear with us as we work through all of the applications that we received. We will be in contact again with an update for you as soon as we have one. Rest assured, we will be in touch either way, to advise if your application has been progressed to the next stage in the recruitment process.

Kind regards

The Northern Recruitment Team
Lumpa6259 - how did you get on with this application?
I’ve been reading the Manchester trainee driver roles have now been pulled, looking ominous for this Leeds driver recruitment. Thanks.

I’d check your application portal. Leeds and York were both pulled I believe.

Thanks for your post. No, still awaiting course start dates last updated from HR end of Feb. But starting to think these will be pulled at some point, or 9 months will elapse.

Have you done the psychometrics? I take it you're an external candidate?

Okay I’m assuming this is from a much earlier recruitment or qualified recruitment drive ?

The trainee Leeds role from around October 20 was definitely withdrawn.

It definitely wasn't fully cancelled. I know of several internal applicants from that round who are waiting for start dates.

Indeed, the email that went out stated that “the position is no longer available and has been closed” so we can assume it was filled with internal candidates perhaps?

I suspect that is the case, yes.

Thanks both of you for your info. Yes I am external and had passed everything, will just have to keep waiting for the right opportunity I suppose. All the best.
If you’d done everything including mmi and dmi you might still be on their books as it were. If a suitable vacancy comes up you’ll more than likely get an email out of the blue.

It really is a case of nothing being certain until you’ve done the medical and have an unconditional offer in your inbox. Good luck!
