Confirmation came in today that British-born artist Daniel Dumile - known to millions as MF DOOM - passed away on the 31st October.

His wife announced the news today on Instagram.

MF DOOM (Daniel Dumile), the legendary underground rapper known for his elaborate lyrics, genre-bending collaborations, and iconic “supervillain” mask/persona, died on Oct. 31 at the age of 49 according to a post on his social media accounts written by his wife.

“The greatest husband, father, teacher, student, business partner, lover and friend I could ever ask for,” the Instagram post written by Dumile’s wife, Jasmine, states. “Thank you for all the things you have shown, taught and given to me, our children and our family. Thank you for teaching me how to forgive beings and give another chance, not to be so quick to judge and write off. Thank you for showing how not to be afraid to love and be the best person I could ever be. My world will never be the same without you. Words will never express what you and Malachi mean to me, I love both and adore you always. May THE ALL continue to bless you, our family and the planet.”

The post concludes by saying that the rapper “transitioned” on Oct. 31.

Last year, DOOM spoke with SPIN about the 15th anniversary of the iconic Madvillainy after originally being featured by SPIN back in 2004 surrounding the release of Mm..Food.

Dumile is responsible for one of the greatest hip-hop albums of all time in the form of the Madlib collaboration Madvillainy. He also provided a central contribution to another modern masterpiece and all-timer, guesting on Gorillaz's acclaimed Demon Days, while turning out lauded album after lauded album himself - including MM.. FOOD and Dangermouse collaboration Danger Doom.

He remains a true legend.

RIP DOOM.

:(

Aware of him, never got round to listening in depth. Sad to hear it though :'(
I'd really recommend listening to a few tracks from Mm.. Food (like One Beer). It's probably my favourite of his stuff, aside from the Gorillaz collab.

Thanks, had a listen the other day & Radio 6 had some stuff on. Decent enough, not quite my thing but I enjoyed it :)
