Chester Road, I once heard of someone who bought a ticket to there as it was cheaper than one to Chester and planned to walk the rest of the way!

Knighton station isn't too far out of the town, but is in a different country (the station is just on the English side of the border). On a similar note overseas is Andorre - L' Hospitalet station on the Toulouse - La Tour de Carol line. This station is in France but is the main (only?) rail link for the country of Andorra via a bus link.

Clifton Down is about a mile away from the actual Clifton Downs. Not terribly far but doesn’t really reflect the area it’s located in. I think Clifton (Whiteladies Road) would be more suitable

"Salford Quays" tram stop is terribly named from a describing-its-location standpoint, because Exchange Quay, Anchorage, Harbour City, MediaCityUK and Imperial War Museum are all also in an area commonly referred to as Salford Quays.

Almost any ex-GWR station with "Road" in the name. But I think we've discussed this before

Tring, basically in the middle of nowhere, other than a handful of houses, it's nearly two miles to the town centre. Tring station is nearer to the village of Albury about a mile away.

Others on the WCML and thereabouts are Hemel Hempstead, Sandbach and Winsford.

The station is on the east side of the river Conwy, the village can be accessed by a rural footpath through fields and footbridge over the river Conwy, about 25 minutes walk!

Not great in the winter or after dark!

Long Eaton Station is no longer on the Midland Mainline to the South of Toton, but is some 2 miles from the town on the Nottingham Derby line.

Crewkerne station is in the village of Misterton. The station for Brandon, Suffolk, is across the Little Ouse River in Norfolk. Malton station is across the River Derwent in Norton.

The Southern had these as well - Lyndhurst Road, Port Isaac Road and St. Kew Highway. In the latter example and others, a new community grew up round the station which took the suffix "station" or "road" - e.g. Ferryhill Station, Widdrington Station and Clarbeston Road.

Saundersfoot station is a long way from the village and the road is not an easy walk when traffic is busy in summer.

Northolt Park is pretty much in South Harrow , and closer to that than it is to Northolt

Elstree and Borehamwood is quite far from Elstree itself , but that's a more tenuous one

Bushey station is also closer to Watford than it is to Bushey I'd argue

Iver and Langley are pretty far from the places themselves, both being located in the middle of nowhere imo

Has the footbridge over the river been reopened as I heard it was closed by the water company a couple months ago?

Weeton station on the Harrogate line is in the middle of the village of Huby and about a mile away from the much smaller village of Weeton.

Dent station on the Settle & Carlisle is situated in (or several hundred feet above) the hamlet of Cowgill and about four miles from the village of Dent.

In the Kent/Sussex area-
Swale station is named after the Swale Estuary- there is no such place as Swale
Penshurst station is in the village of Chiddingstone Causeway.
Knockholt station is over 2 miles from Knockholt village
Frant station is in the small village of Bells Yew Green
Doleham serves Doleham farm and a few houses.
Christs Hospital station serves Christs Hospital which is a public school and not a hospital.

Dent.........

Could Birmingham International count as it no longer reflects the name of what it serves? The airport hasn’t gone by the name of ‘Birmingham International Airport’ for some 10 years.

Knockholt is about 3 miles away from the village and closer to Halstead or Pratt's Bottom (guessing that was passed over as a name...) and somebody has already mentioned Farningham Road which should really be South Darenth.

Castle bar Park and Drayton Green is actually in west Ealing

There are of course already being a station with that name, so requiring more suburban / vague sounding names.

I think it’s been mentioned before, but Houston & Crosslee on the Kilmalcolm line wasn’t actually in either place. It was in Brookfield. Corkerhill station is in Mosspark, but Mosspark is actually in South Cardonald.

The station at the west end of the Los Angeles Green Line is called Redondo Beach: it is in the city of Redondo Beach, but in terms of an actual “beach”, that’s four miles from the station.....

Would it be cheeky to mention Turkey Street?
Not if I can mention Liverpool Street, often half of a trap for visitors to Ely or Norwich.

The station for Brandon, Suffolk, is actually across the Little Ouse River in Norfolk.
Neighbouring Lakenheath station is worse, in the correct county but 2 miles along a pathless main roaf from the village. The line also contains some non GWR "Road" stations.

Conversly, does the Borough of Brent have any stations with Brent in their name?

Micheldever (originally Andover Road, until Andover got its own railway line) is an interesting one. Micheldever railway station itself is about 2.5 miles from the actual village of Micheldever, however the village that subsequently built up around the railway station is officially named 'Micheldever Station'.

So Micheldever station is actually 2.5 miles from the village from which it takes its name, but has subsequently given its name to a different village. So by rights I guess a more accurate name these days would therefore be Micheldever Station station!
