My family and I won't be as we hate wearing masks and will continue to use the car.

I think getting out and about, albeit whilst muzzled up, is a lot better than being constantly locked up at home - lockdowns have driven me absolutely insane as it is. Public transport remains the only option here as neither myself nor anybody in my family can drive!

Mostly Glasgow-ish. Mostly.
Really not bothered about needing to wear a mask on public transport for a while longer if those are the rules. I find them minimally bothersome and I have a life to get on with.

I'm short sighted and with mask glasses steam up so would not be able to enjoy the journey.

Difficult for me to select either of those two options. As my opinion is somewhat in between.

When the weather warms up decently(probably won't be till next month now by the looks of it), I'm intending to do some beach days out on the train to Weymouth and Bournemouth. Both of which are about 2 hour 20 minutes journeys in each direction on the train for me. Looking forward to this, even if having to wear these ridiculous face coverings for the whole journey.

But I also want to do some much longer train journeys this year, i.e. journeys of over 4 hours or so in each direction. But whilst this face mask wearing nonsense is still dragging on - along will all these annoying PA announcements instructing us to do so, I have no plans to. They will have to wait until face mask wearing is finally dropped. Hopefully this will be from 21st June.

Yes, but only because I'm exempt from mask-wearing under the current regulations, and despite the vast amounts of tedious signage and announcements, most railway staff seem now to accept exemptions without too much hassle.

Exactly. I don't like them, but I find them less hassle than I did originally, and if that's the price I have to pay for getting some semblance of a life back, then so be it.

I don't believe it is the same on aircraft so I probably won't fly until that is dropped

Likewise - for me it isn't binary. It'll certainly be somewhat offputting to travel wearing a mask but it likely won't stop me completely

I’ve answered ‘Yes’ because I want to get out and about again and enjoy some holidays away from home. I did my first leisure rail trip last week and wearing a mask was bearable for the short 30 minute journey. I don’t like it but I think I would be willing to put up with it for a journey of about 2 or 3 hours.

In October I have a hotel rebooked for a week in Penzance which was cancelled last year. I’m not sure that I would want to travel by train wearing a mask for over 6 hours from Derby to Penzance. Hopefully by October mask wearing on trains will no longer be required. My hotel booking is cancellable if I decide not to bother. One alternative, which woukd make the journey time even longer, would be to take a couple of breaks of journey to get some air, but I do have the whole day to do the journey.

Yes. I like my beer too much to be spending leisure journeys in my car!

Yes, but any of these journeys would be fairly local. I've no intention of paying larger sums of money to travel great distance whilst being forced to wear a mask.

I did Edinburgh to London in August. It was actually fine.

I think it varies from person to person. I don't like masks but it's not wearing them that's the problem - instead I don't like the constant sight of faceless people, it feels like I'm living in a horror movie!

But there will be a lot of people who have a lot of discomfort wearing them, so I can understand why they're more reluctant to travel.

Been doing Glasgow - London multiple times by plane and train and it's been totally ok. Got some twelve hour flights lined up towards the end of the year so I may feel differently about things after those!
I'm starting to lose patience with people moaning about masks. I hated them at first and certainly don't wear them by choice. I'm also not convinced they do anything. However, it's not a hill I'm choosing to die on. It's just where we are right now.

I did 4 flights last summer all required a mask. As much as I hate masks, my enjoyment of days out and holidays outweighs my dislike of masks.

Exactly. If I have to choose between wearing a mask or still not being able to go anywhere, the former wins hands down.

It would take a flogging or a modest amount of dental torture to keep me off the trains. Masks are no sweat.

I won’t visit a single premises where mask wearing is compulsory other than those where I have literally no other choice. I absolutely detest them.

Is the question specifically asking about rail: it's not framed in the poll as such but the wording of the original post implies it?

I can't imagine getting my wife on a train for any length of journey while masks are needed. She finds them very uncomfortable and would rather do non-mask leisure while they're needed. She'd probably do a short hop for the sake of a linear walk - but we're talking a couple of stops on the Tyne or Esk Valley lines, I'd have thought, rather than anything longer.

My daughter and I are more likely to do so, though much less than pre-pandemic as I won't have the 'free' weekend travel courtesy of my season ticket for the foreseeable.

I had a severe issue with this early on. I found people wearing masks really quite repulsive and tried to avoid seeing them wherever possible. I'm not sure why I had quite such a strong reaction to it, but I definitely did.

As with everything though - like on-screen violence :) - you get de-sensitised over time. So I don't really care much anymore, as long as I don't have to wear one. I'd rather others weren't wearing them, of course, but I'm not going to let that stop me doing stuff.

I'll continue as I have been when allowed to travel in the last 6 months only. Which is short journeys by train or bus only and all longer journeys by car. I used to make a lot of long distance train trips but I find it too unpleasant to do so whilst wearing a mask. I'll stick to short journeys or where there is no sensible alternative (such as going to London).

Although I have not used a train since March 2020, and am unlikely to do so in the near future, as of now I would be less likely to travel by train if wearing masks were not mandatory. I concluded that wearing masks made sense back in 2020 and I don't see anything to make me change my opinion today. At some future date things will change, but not yet.

Ironically it would have been cosmetically beneficial for me given that two of my front teeth (crowns) fell out in the first lockdown last year, that although I had temporary dentures they weren't needed for cosmetic reasons, and it's only been a couple of weeks since the final crowns on top of the new implants filled in the gap in my smile.

Yes. As much as I dislike masks, frankly I'd rather wear them and be able to doing the things I loved doing instead of a lockdown which is no longer justified.

That's good to know. If all restrictions aren't lifted on 21 June then I'm planning on becoming exempt after that date anyway so it's good to know I shouldn't get too much hassle.

I'm in the same middle ground as many people - I still make journeys but they are shorter than they used to be. The furthest I have been on a single train is Bristol - Weymouth, which did get a bit tedious towards the end of the return journey.

I also tend to split my journeys up more for a break. When travelling Bristol - Hove last summer I walked from Paddington to Victoria rather than take the tube. It only took a few minutes more than normal anyway and was far nicer ambling across Hyde Park. When travelling from Bristol to Dawlish or Teignmouth I often now walk between Exeter St Davids and St Thomas if there isn't a good connection at St Davids for the same reason.
