A couple of times in the past two weeks a short train has passed the end on my garden, late afternoon/earlyevening, proceeding North on the MML.
Said train consists of two Class 66,one at each end, and about six small blue tanker wagons all absolutely filthy.
I haven't got a very good view at the moment as our orchard is in full leaf but what I would love to know is what it's story is.

That will be the Railhead Treatment Train (RHTT). Used at this time of year to minimise traction issues caused by leaves (including ones from your orchard :) )

They spray water onto the rail heads at high pressure to remove crushed leaves' residue. It doesn't take long for a pristine loco to look like this:

I hope the original poster doesn't mind me posing another 'What is it?' question, but the topic thread seemed so apposite.

My daughter spotted a train near Tackley earlier today. I couldn't for the life of me work out what it was from her description (a dark green diesel, coaches in an odd livery - 'not the usual sort of train'). It could well have been this working. based on the time: https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:K04663/2021-10-15/detailed

Can anyone shed any light?

Dark green and Reading suggest GWR - a class 769 movement perhaps?

Discussed in more depth here, if you're interested.

Thanks so much, Horizon22. The details she was insistent on turned out to be somewhat unreliable! I will ask her to pay closer attention in future

This is the movement from the RTT suggestion. https://flic.kr/p/2mAZxCy

GWR 769 hauled by 37884.
Thanks - appreciate the quick info.

Yes indeed, confirmed by other posts (although she was quite sure the coaches were a different colour from the loco which was green...). Thanks.
