If it is 37s where would the 37s work from? Would it just be Mach to Barmouth or somewhere else?

"It's like buying a U2 CD and opening the case to find a Coldplay disc. It's good, but not what I paid for"

Someone summed it up for me, to which I agree.

Look on the bright side. There is less chance of the Bridge collapsing, and there is more chance of the tour failing and coming to a stop on the bridge, so you get to admire the views for longer!!

Shame im not at home. Id have enjoyed this tour with it being 37s.

It's currently being shoved around Crewe IEMD getting cab vibrations sorted, 67018 is heading away from WSMR at the minute because we now have:
67001/012/013/014/029/ in active service!

I love the way this makes supposed "bible" type NR documents a waste of time, the Cambrian is down as a RA5 route and they go and put 67s down it.

I look forward to a WSMR/Chiltern 67 running to Aberystwyth on a scheduled service now!

Excellent pics indeed, now Gareth would that be before or after the hourly service:) we might know about the hourly service soon, the A,Ms return in full tomorrow after their months holiday.
Make sure the next WAG transport Minister lives on the line, that's the only way to get loco hauled

ERTMS doesnt favour loco hauled very well, it's all set up for DMUs in the main. It can be done, but would be a swine to plan.

I'm sure they'll like to pull a rabbit out the hat for the May election just in case those pesky students and university types in Aberystwyth elect a Lib Dem in Ceredigion as they have done in the last 2 general elections. Mark Williams made some mileage out of pointing out that Plaid in Cardiff had not delivered the hourly service last May and given the fiasco at Aberystwyth station on the 16th December when passengers were left behind off the 1330, 1530 & 1730 departures the non Plaid outward looking dwellers of Aberystwyth certainly had some strong views.

Never been 100% convinced of a full blown hourly clockface interval service, however the handle "hourly service" or "daytime hourly" service is for stakeholder consumption its much sexier than the a few extra trains on the Cambrian mainline a day project.

Getting 10/11 trains a day over the entire stretch between Salop and Aber would be big improvement even if the extra 2 or 3 were not quite clockface with the current BHI 2 hrly service.

Theirs a school of thought that there's a more captive London market in Aberystwyth than Wrexham. No Virgin in Chester with hyper quick trip via the Trent Valley plus no road network. Aber is 60 odd miles to Carmarthen and the A40 Dual Carrigeway, there's a choice of 3/4 different cart tracks all of which you can average 30mph on. Eastwards the A5 at Shrewsbury is 80 miles over one of the roads with the worst accident rate in the UK - the A44 and then through Newtowns peak hour traffic problems. Northwards the A55 is close to a 3hr haul.

If someone was going to take a punt at it then it should go Aber - Shrewsbury then non-stop to Euston/Marylebone, no messing about at Telford, Wolves or shacks around Brum.

If there had to be a stop in the West Mids, do something a bit different and do the route Virgin planned, stop at Walsall then the Sutton Park and out to the WCML calling at Coleshill and Nuneaton post 2012.
