i see theres a convoy of diesels going from eastleigh to swanage ready for the gala later on, someone mentioned online it was a 33 with 2 class 50s so ill try and photograph them

there should be more diesels coming to swanage some point for the gala but as of yet i dont know what date, if anyone might know that would be great as would like to photo graph them as well as it looks to be some 37s and 40s? i think

cant even remember the last time class 40s where even down this way, must have been a long time ago on a railtour if so

Good to see the costly mainline connection at Worgret Junction being used.

A real shame that Swanage Railway have decided not to operate the Swanage <> Wareham trial service due to the prevailing economic conditions (amongst other considerations).

yes was a bit of a shame as i would have taken the train to the gala if possible rather than go by road....that and them having the beer festival on also

Exactly - all joking apart - there are those of use who like to go to beer festivals who not only drink sensibly but are also minded to use public transport door to door for the very obvious reasons. I am hoping there may be a courtesy bus operating between Wareham and Norden. The ex Hants and Dorset FLF would suit me fine!

In Kent anyway, it's not considered good form by the heritage bus community to take customers from scheduled services unless you have the agreement of the operator, largely I think because the main operating companies support the heritage movement so well.

Presumably then it would not be considered good form for Swanage Railway to have the audacity to operate between Swanage and Wareham! :D

Seriously though SRC has a good relationship with Go South Coast and indeed Andrew Wickham GSC MD is a heritage rail enthusiast. GSC feature Swanage Railway in displays inside some of their Purbeck Breezer fleet.

Perhaps this good relationship is why the Swanage railway does not want to abstract Go South Coast’s 40 & 50 bus route revenue.

talking of bus revenue that seems to be a large factor/opposition with the hythe railway re opening, will take away from the ferry and bus

Other sources state that the convoy will be 33012 + 50026. The other 50 has wheelset problems and may come to Swanage if the problem can be resolved in time

Correct, the 33 is returning home after a very thorough overhaul at the works by the owning group, while I believe the 50 is coming along for shakedown testing as well as participating in this years gala.

Ran about an hour late. Here they are passing through Talbot Woods, between Bournemouth and Branksome.
