How about Penn station under Madison Square Garden?

It's not a football stadium although Basketball and Ice Hockey is played there, so it's better than most suggestions on here.
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
Dalwhinne, in the Highalnd's of Scotland has a colder average yearly temperature than Iceland. ;)

That is a genuinely interesting fact and therefore more useful than most of the other tosh on here.

In reply to Striker, actually, it ran underneath some of the support structure of Kenilworth Road. While it didn't run under the ground, it's close enough. And with regards to you supposedly fitting in within another thread, why would you try and belittle people? Obviously a social misfit.

Don't the lines out of Marylebone go underneath Lords?

Striker, you have admitted you are neither a railwayman, nor a rail enthusiast, so what you are doing on here amazes me. You are constantly nit-picking everyone else's contributions to this excellent forum, yet never seem to contribute much meaningful info yourself. Please, please, please stop being so, it annoys me greatly. We established very early on in this Thread that there are indeed none, so generally moved onto nearby, or other sporting venues, until you contribute something useful, please stop getting involved, what you do isbn't even useful (backseat moderating can be), it is just pointless rubbish.

Millwall FC - The New Den - all NR lines out of London Bridge eastwards, especially those over to South Bermondsey, you can even see inside the ground!
You may be able to see Preston NE - Deepdale from the Blackburn-Preston line around about Pleasington, don't quote me on that, but you can see it from Blackburn.
Wigan Athletic - DW Stadium - obvious, on your left heading northbound out of North Western station.

I know it might not count, but the old Glasgow Central Railway line from Glasgow Central - Carmyle is 80 metres from Celtic Park in a tunnel under London Road

Without wanting to upset the ever so precious moaner 'Striker' here is a picture of Starks Park (Raith Rovers) from the ECML, I can't think of any other football ground in Scotland that is closer to a railway. Shame I can find a photo of the stadium from the railway but not the otehr way round. Given that the railway side of the ground isn't properly developed and is very short compared to the 2 main stands behind the goals you get a good view of all the trains going past. Takes your mind of the lower league football on show.

As mentioned earlier, there's a line at the back of the Alloa ground - not in passenger use at the moment however.

This is a picture I took from the Cove ground a couple of months ago: http://www.flickr.com/photos/thebustocrookes/5204710807/

Of course years ago, Station Park in Forfar would have been handy too...

(n.b. none of these go *under* grounds)

Nothing meaningful? I was one of the few people on this thread who actually answered the OPs question AND even went to the time and effort to crop a photo from the internet, upload it onto a photo sharing website, and then post it onto the thread!

Tell me how is that not contributing anything useful?

Yes, but it is in the manner in which you put down other respected mebers in here which i cannot stand, you constantly tell everyone else of without actually earning that right by posting constantly useful stuff. And the smileys don't help either.

I think the problem, and why the OP isn't getting an answer is because there seem to only be a few answers.

I'm still waiting MattE2010 to explain why he thinks I never post anything useful yet in this thread I've made what is possibly the most useful post. But I don't expect an answer now as it's easy to fire off random attacks without having to justify it and having no come back.

I love this thread. The OP specifically asks for trainlines that run UNDER football stadiums and he gets a load of replies from people telling him about lines that go close to stadiums. Not what was being asked was it?

Although, technically, my response was a BASEBALL stadium, which also isn't a football stadium, so I shall slap myself. However, at least a line does run underneath it.

Apparently it doesn't run under it, and as it's underground anyway, what good is that? I think when the OP said he would accept light railway he meant as long as that section is overground.

Then the answer in the UK is a NO then.

As noted earlier in the thread in Dublin we have two stadia where railway lines run through the complex.

Lansdowne Road:
The Dublin Connolly - Rosslare Railway used to run under the West stand until the ground was rebuilt. After rebuilding the stadia is next to the railway but there is a raft over the railway to allow better crowd access to the ground.

Old Lansdowne: http://thewanderersirishrailphotos.fotopic.net/p43516647.html
New Lansdowne: http://thewanderersirishrailphotos.fotopic.net/p65036152.html

In the Northside of the City, Croke Park home of the gaelic games there are two railway lines boxing the ground in with the MGWR branch running under the Canal End Stand. The GSWR branch runs behind "Hill 16".

Could Dublin be the only place where the two main sports stadiums in a city are built over railways?

The Wanderer.

Of course most commuters are busy reading, playing with phones and laptops, sleeping etc and pay no attention but the bunch of foolish Arabs who paid the cash would not be aware of that.

True, but when I'm on a train with leisure travellers - you'll nearly always be near someone who is pointing the stadium out to their kids or talking about it. Sadly, I doubt they're likely to be flying Emirates as a result of seeing it on the side of the ground, and so the cash is still somewhat wasted!

Even as a Spurs fan, I must say that it's a great stadium though!

Why are you trying to increase your post count by answering questions that have already been answered? See post 18.

314 posts in little over a month? I wonder who is trying hardest to increase their post count! You'll be passing me by in no time, if you survive on the forum that long!

The new stadium building was constructed with some of the stand access around, over and under the line although as you said the pitch was moved so the stand itself is no longer hanging over the lines.

The city's other (larger) main stadium Croke Park is also in close proximity to the railway, being essentially boxed in by 2 parallel lines (and a canal) at different elevations. Any plan to complete the stand ring would involve building over one of the lines which is at present hidden from the stadium by the outer wall of the terrace end.

And of course, the two ends are (confusing to foreigners perhaps) referred to the "Railway end" (north) and the "Canal end" (south) - despite there being railway lines at both ends!

I'll always remember last year the return RPSI "Maynooth Shuttle" steamed past just as the National Anthem started to play, it was the All-Ireland Camogie Final, as a Wexfordian I'm pleased to report Wexford ended up victorious!

Technically it is a Football stadium, though not soccer, although soccer was played there until relatively recent times while the Landsdowne Rd Stadium (I refuse to call it the Aviva) was under construction

The closest I can get doesn't count as it probably misses by around 40-50 feet and is Underground\Light Rail anyway!

St James Park - Newcastle

I was just thinking about this while travelling to and from the game yesterday and I'm thinking the overrun tunnel on Platform 1 might just reach the south west corner of the Gallowgate stand.

Drayton Park (just off the Finsbury Park - Moorgate branch)... the bridge (behind the giant ARSENAL lettering), which must be technically part of the stadium, goes over the line :D

P.S. I take it the Google Maps tube lines overlay isn't that accurate, but if it is, so does the Picc and Victoria (but I know they were discounted upthread)

Suppose the Ricoh Arena should get a mention - the Coventry to Nuneaton line runs right past it. Who knows, a train might stop at a new station there in the future.
