Not seen anything as to which ones are to go.
813 & 842 were due to go but that could change

Good afternoon from a very warm Patchway around 40 minutes late 66793 with the Van's took 455803 and 455806 for scrap to Newport Docks Simms.
So for accurate records 455803 and 455806 now gone for scrap to Newport Docks Simms.

I think given the strikes that will be happening during the week, the next pair of 455s bound for Newport might get a stay of execution!

Indeed, and two of the strike days take place on the days 455 scrap moves take place anyway! So it's no surprise that there are none planned for next week.

I wouldn't worry to much they don't come of lease to around near the end of August anyway and rate of moves already GBRF was already a month ahead in the timescales anyway.
Plenty of slack. Shouldn't take long to move the rest to scrap. Even worst case scenario still should be able to beat Rail Operators Group record of moving x18 365 for scrap record of 4 and a half months.

Not that I’m concerned about them in the slightest! The longer the SN 455’s stick around the better ;)

I’m passing Selhurst on an Epsom Downs train in half an hour or so. I wonder if I’ll spot any of the miserable things sulking in the depot. Presumably all at Stewards Lane now.

Nope.

All at Stewarts Lane ;)
Ah right. I must say this pair of /2s I'm on is far more comfortable, although I'd have preferred a /4 as they have doors on the (declassified on Metro) first class, and as I'm travelling with my little poodle another pair of doors always reassures me in case he makes a bolt for it. He’s excited for his run on Epsom Downs and therefore a bit restless!

And the South Western ones. 701 get more delayed. However it appears today that the Arlington vans this week are booked into the rail event at Long Marston. From a local very reliable source of mine and would not have run the move this week anyway.

It’s the Mk1 vans that will be going to Long Marston; so far all 455s scrap moves have had the ex-508 vans in the consist

Live rail record website reckons its the 321334 swift parcels unit with 69002.
However for another thread.
However pity the Honeybourne to Long marston shuttle could not have been a locomotive and one of the 455 Swr units from there locomotive hauled that would have been good.

There were six units at Hove when I passed on Saturday. 5801 was one of them
On an oddnote, on the Metro Maurader railtour, they were selling destination blinds and I bought one, which was numbered 77579 ex 455825, however 77579 was originally and numerically part of 455801, which looking at the books seems to include 77627 in its set (which numerically was part of 455825).
Anyone know why the cars were swapped ?

Corrosion damage took longer to deal with at the mid 2000s refurbishment on some vehicles than others so carriages were swapped between the last few units in the programme.

Probably swapped during maintenance, face-lift or accident damage repairs
Many of the Southern 455s were re-fomed at some point. The ones that don't contain all their original vehicles are ( or were! ):

455 801
455 808
455 809
455 812
455 816
455 818
455 823
455 824
455 825
455 827
455 828
455 830

In addition, the driving trailers on 455 826 swapped ends at some point.

I have the flame cut piece from said 77579!
According to a source, 455825 had a collision with 319214 at Selhurst Depot in the early 2000's and therefore swapped DTS's with 455801 before they were refurbished

455801, 455823 and 455844 all moved from Hove to Stewarts Lane today

That's a shame, I had 801 and 804 together in their final few days. Both were excellent units with 804 having a proper Southern EE whine, while 801 had some proper good compressors on it. Two much missed sounds from the Southern Region!
