158/159s are at Salisbury, 444s and 450s are maintained by Siemens at Northam (Southampton) and the rest are based at Wimbledon (456s now withdrawn)

The class 158/159s are based at Salisbury, the 444 and 450 fleets at Northam (Southampton), the 484s at Ryde, and everything else at Wimbledon. Siemens operate Northam depot, the rest of the depots are operated by SWR.

With the exception of the 484s, all can be seen away from their Home Depots, with all making appearances at Clapham Yard, and the 444/450 fleets making appearances at Fratton and Bournemouth depots.

I assume the 458's are maintained by Alstom? Is this at Wimbledon depot also?

Alstom don’t maintain the 458s, it’s in house at Wimbledon. SWT learned a very painful lesson of not letting Almost near them.

Alstom don't touch the 458s, maintenance is done by SWR

707 maintenance is done by Siemens with some of the dedicated staff seconded from SWR at Wimbledon.

Fratton is quite often used as a depot for modifications, the 458 door overhaul was undertaken by Faiveley there and original Desiro WiFi was fitted there and when the 442s were with SWR it was a satellite of Bournemouth with fitters and some spares for smaller jobs. I would imagine the same will apply with 458s.

159s and 450s often regularly sit in Wimbledon too; passed a double 159 there only yesterday. Don’t tend to see 444s there as much thinking about it.

To a degree is depends what maintenance you are on about, that list is the Home Depots for each fleet but that doesn’t mean all maintenance is carried out but the Home Depot.

Some sheds such as Fratton/Bournemouth will do light servicing/basic fault repairs and on the flip side depots like Salisbury are unable to do certain repairs on the 158s/159s for example they have no wheel lathe so units have to visit Wimbledon Park for some maintenance etc. There again Wimbledon is unable to paint its units and those are instead done at Bournemouth!

We've got two jobs where our Waterloo drivers either take a 159 unit from Salisbury to Wimbledon or vice versa.I think its for wheel lathe work but it may be for other things.
Mainly answered by HG in previous post.TY.

Farnham is another such depot that has a fitter who can deal with more minor faults, with units that are serviceable but in need of/due for a visit to Northam being sent out in the morning on a diagram that ends there.

The best way of summarising it is all units will have a Home Depot (which has been listed in earlier posts), these depots will oversee maintenance as a whole on the fleet but certain lesser activities maybe done at ‘outstations’ and certain specialist work may also be done at other depots which specialist equipment/staff are located.

Is BM the only place with a paint shop?
I speak with a historical head on. This was specifically put in place for the 455 overhaul/retraction programme originally I believe, and without going into detail, the paint finish achieved on those units (being red, a notoriously difficult colour to match/keep in good condition) was an exceptional achievement on the part of the painters at BM.

All part of a well designed train plan, allowing for diagrams that cater for various maintenance needs, whilst still maintaining a (largely) standard pattern (stock types/platform usage) of service on the wider network. That said like any situation where many different needs have to be taken in to account, and on a network as complex as the SW, there was (and no doubt still is?) a need for a degree of compromise in some areas.
