You can find everything using the search function
You realise you could have been far more helpful and actually answered had you known.

I did search 'assessment centre' and given this thread relates to the assessment centre I felt that it would be the most appropriate place to ask.

Two minutes. Big giant sheet, not A3 /A4.

Have a read through my comments and Nathan's earlier on in the thread as well as in the "Driver thread" that is a sticky.

Hi everyone, quick question on the AVAVT? Do you reckon you have to get every image 100% correct to score a point or get a point for each thing you spot and maybe points deducted for things you marked down but aren’t there? If that makes sense? Thank you.

Honestly, no one knows. All you can do is try your best.

@nathanreder

Thank you for this amazingly helpful post. I have my psychometrics on Tuesday for Northern and it's safe to say I'm starting to get a little nervous now.

Regarding the group bourdon test I've heard mixed things in terms of the timings, is it 1 or 2 minutes you get per page please?

Any last minute tips or advice ;) :p
It is 2 minutes per page. Although I'm still convinced a few were shorter. However I think the time just flies by.

It's quick fire. So when they say next you go straight to the next one, no stopping at all.

My only tip that worked for me is not to put head too close to the page. By the time you get to the third section you'll be see blobs and stars. If you've done enough practice you'll find yourself recognising the shapes and should get through it OK.

Personally I can't see that being the case.

The more likely marking is points for each correct one and maybe double loss on guessing/not being there.

There is no way i got them all 100% right and did enough to be in the talent pool

Yeah I’m kind of thinking/hoping that. Well done for getting talent pool.

Think about it, if you ONLY got points for spotting things, it would make sense just to click every option. It has to be negatively marked to make this an accurate test. I believe your responses are also assessed for speed, so don’t sit there thinking about it for too long after the image has gone.

Also, remember that it’s ‘adaptive’, like a hearing test. It will get harder until you start failing, then it will get easier again until you start succeeding. It wants to find the maximum difficulty at which you perform well.

Oh Christ I didn’t realise it adapted! Thanks for the insight though, much appreciated.

Neither did I, even though the clue is in the name of the test. So if you find yourself just getting images of a car in the desert, it’s not going well

Had my psychometric testing earlier today and found out that I sadly failed.

The phonebook test and tones test caught me out.

I realise that I now can't re-take the tests again for 6 months but does anyone know (specifically with Northern) as to whether if a driver role was to come up say 4 months away whether I could reapply as long as my psychometric test is after the 6 month mark or will I have to wait the full 6 months first before I can apply for the driver role?

6 months wait to apply again for same role at Northern.
Out of interest was it low tones or high tones you had to count?

Sorry to hear that mate. But least next time you'll have a better grasp at it.

Regarding reapplying I believe you can apply you just can't do the assessment within 6 months of the fail date. So aslong as there was a delay you'd be OK.

Seems to vary between testing. They tell you at the start what to do and what to listen for, it will be one or the other.

Most companies say in the application that if you have failed psychometric assessment within the last six months that you cannot apply.

I thought I would write this to offer you an insight into the Assessment day.

I went in for the assessment day at Leeds City centre. I got there at 08:30 and went to a waiting are where over the course of 15 mins I met three other candidates who would be on the assessment day with me. We went in at 09:00 where we had an introduction to the day and to the paper tests. My biggest tip for the written tests would be to take a stop watch with you.

Group Bourdon test
This was as you expect, the "dot test" this test was easier in person than the practice tool and the 5 tests were across three pages of a book each had bout 16 lines. I managed between 8-10 lines on all 5 pages.

Phonebook test
This was the second test which we moved straight into, we were given a piece of A3 paper which was in the form of a phonebook, at the end of everything in the book there was shapes. We had to circle all of the double shapes two circles or two triangles for example. However as you would expect there was many different and made to confuse you.
The second part of this test was an audio, we had to listen for High and Low tone beeps. We had to ignore the low tone and only count the high tone and this was effectively the floor that the elevator was on.
The third part was putting both tests together and doing them at the same time.

Memory test
This was where we were given an audio chat of some learning material. After this we were given 5 mins to read through the same material and take notes. After the 5 mins they were taken off us and we were given an answer booklet. We had to wait 5 mins again before starting. We then had a multiple choice answer booklet to answer questions on the material. TIP! if you have a stop watch and you only have seconds remaining randomly select the remaining answers as you are not punished for wrong answers!

At this stage we were sent back to the waiting area to await our results.
Two candidates were taken separately and were informed they had not been successful.

We remaining two were given a 5 minute break before the PC tests.

First test
We had to stare at a monitor with a white screen for 33mins every so often a grey square would pop up and if it turned black we had to press a button.

Second test
We were shown photos for a split second and had to remember items we seen in that picture.

Third test
Joystick test, We had to navigate through a shape not leaving the lines as fast as we could.

We were again given a break after being told our results.

We went back in and had to do a situational judgement test on the PC and write a prep for our MMI.
We then went into our MMI and were told the results straight after.

Any help needed just ask.
Hi Nathan, thank you for the post and the detailed information above it really is nice to have an outline of the day. I wanted to ask what kind of practice you engaged in before your assessment day and any that you would recommend. I have an assessment day on the 19th July and have found some of the test a lot easier to practice than others.

Sounds like you smashed it, any last minute tips would be greatly appreciated.

The only test you can practice on is the group bourdon one. Check the sticky thread and print out the pages and pratice everyday. This is the test where the more you do the more you get better as you start to recognise what 4 clusters of dots looks like.

Everything else, as long as you know what to expect, is more then enough which the other poster has touched up on and explained everything really well. For example tea occ your circling double symbols ONLY.

Thanks two two, yeah I'm proactively practicing the Group Bourdon, and feel that I have a good understanding of the day.

You can practice the ATAVT with a friend. Get them to grab a few screenshot off Google Street view in Vienna and flash them for a 1 / 2 seconds. You'll pick it up and this identical signage for the real test too as it's a all from Vienna.

Can't really practise the two hand.

You can practice for Glop test by developing techniques for memorising tex.

You can practice the tones test by watching stuff on YouTube etc.

The grey square test is on YouTube too but at a much faster pace.

Great info. Cheers. Just a qq on the Group bourdon. Is each test in A4 size or are they much smaller ? Thanks
