Quite simple: if it moves to pay TV I just won't bother to watch it any more.

Same, Sky Sports almost matches the cost of Sky HD itself! What they broadcast doesn't justify the price tag.

Overall I would like to see OFCOM punish Murdoch for anti-competition laws but it won't happen until after the general election  so I'll settle for an expansion of the Terrestrial list (those sporting events which must be shown on free-to-air channels, eg the FA cup final)

PPV formula one will kill the sport stone dead. What with all the teams' unrest in recent years, the meddlesome rules to make it more 'competitive', its eye-wateringly expensive to see it at the track, and with more grands prix being held in the back of beyond it's proving hard for the die-hard fans to stay up til 3am to watch it live on telly.

There was recent proposals to restrict research and development budgets for each team so that Ferrari and McLaren couldn't spend their way to the top of their podium with insanely complex and advanced cars compared to the rest of the field; not sure whether thats a good thing, would be more of a challenge to engineers to determine whether the remaining pennies should go to a new spoiler that brings you .3 seconds/lap saving or a new suspension that allows you to corner at a quicker speed, e.g.

I persdonally would like to see a F1-D series (diesel...) for the last decade diesel has totally dominated Le Mans, so why not introduce the pit-stop reduction and performance benefits to F1? Would make more of an onus on tyre selection and conservation :)

Diesel wouldn't make a difference to pitstops. The cars are already fueled for the entire race, and even if they weren't you'd find them using smaller tanks to save weight and stop at the same intervals. Every 10kg is 0.1-0.2 seconds per lap.

Cycling is one area where Sky own a team but are happy for the races to be free to air. After all they need people to see the Sky logo on the rider's jersey! Though if the ownership is more backroom I can see there being potential issues.

Bernies attempt to take the sport pay with F1 Digital+ didn't do very well either here or abroad.

Have to say I started to lose interest in F1 when they started messing with all the rules and banned refueling. It doesn't seem the same as it once was.

There is a reluctance on the part of F1 to go to PPV because so much revenue and sponsorship comes from advertising. terrestrial TV gives the maximum audience and therefore higher revenue.

F1 is a large 'cash cow' for CVC. I dont think that they will sell. Though in F1 you can never tell, but there are huge disincentives to sell to PPV. The other problem is that Fiat group (which includes Ferrari) is part of this.

This could cause problems too in that an owner is racing and could therefore favour itself. It is bad enough with the FIA (Ferrari International Assistance)!

I'd suggest they could make the races more unpredicatable by allowing refuelling again, but hve a rule saying that tyres and fuel cannot both be done in the same pit stop...

This would likely result in less overtaking though as teams will try and win races by fuel strategies.

Not necessarily because they'd have the tyre states in play as well if they couldn't change tyres while refuelling. So you'd have a car coming out heavier on older tyres... much higher chance of a lighter car on fresh tyres from one of the minnow teams getting a chance to overtake for a change?

Ahh I didn't know that! It's news to me.

Well, "IF" is F1 backwards,

IF it happens, I certainly won't be watching. When Sky stole Test cricket, I promptly moved from television to radio. Thing is, you can't follow something like F1 on the radio, so I'll probably stop following the sport altogether.

IF they continue messing around with the rules and turning the racing into a farce, then I might give up anyway.

Thing is, I very much doubt that it will happen, for the reasons described above. That and the fact that Bernie Ecclestone probably won't stomach it. The whole point of having a sport on free-to-air TV is to reach the maximum audience possible. I don't think that old Bernie would want to restrict the audience.
