Hey everyone,

To celebrate the end of my exams, from last Monday to last Wednesday I went on a sightseeing/bashing spree in Cornwall. If you're interested I've uploaded a write up of my experiences in Cornwall.

Great read, thanks for taking the time and trouble to write and post.

I can certainly empathise regarding the forgetting-to-lock-front-door and phone-dropping-out-of-pocket episodes.

I second that, a great read!

A very good read, indeed. Thank you.
Makes me want to go back down to Cornwall again.

As for why there isn't an earlier arrival to Plymouth from Paddington, this was considered in the GW RUS but was ruled out due to a weak business case. FGW however do run a 7:06 departure from Paddington to Paignton via the Berks and Hants with a connection at Newton Abbot for Plymouth.

It was one of the best travalogues that I have read from someone as young as you. My wife has also read it and said that you know how to get a bargain, for getting 3 cans of Coke and a pack of 8 Waggon Wheels for only £2.00!! (Shows you that all that Poundland sells is not just cheap rubbish).

Indeed, you can get some great food/drink bargains for £1 at Poundland. Used to buy my milk there regularly, 4 pints of milk for £1 is a bargain!

Fantastic read and like Welshman, I've been made to want to go on a Cornish bash again. Not been for nearly 3 years, and that was only a quick trip to Newquay (quick as in the time spent there, the journey from Cheltenham Spa and back there took quite a while)! Been wanting to do a Ride Cornwall bash for ages, having never done one, as there's plenty of shacks down there I need. Might have to look into doing one of those next month, assuming some cheap Advance fares can be found to Plymouth. Never been to Land's End either, so could do with getting that in the book too!

Thanks for sharing your experiences with us :)

I'm only 20 so I'm not that young!

It's not only Poundland which offers bargains - Iceland often have some very good deals. However, Iceland ready meals, which cost £1 each, are absolutely foul, so best avoid those.

More generally, try joining moneysupermarket's mailing list and similar ones, such as groupon.com - you might be pleasantly surprised.

Agreed with Iceland sometimes having good deals on, but that said all supermarkets are like that.

Forgot completely to mention it previously, but I did note your dislike of the 150s you got on (well, 150127 at least) during your trip, mentioning that they were unsuitable trains for long-distance services. Surely though you'd agree that they are far better for such workings than a Pacer, particularly when taking the sound factor into consideration? To me, a 150 sounds far better than a 142, indeed the ride quality on a 150 is far superior to that on a 142!

That's true- I'd prefer any 150 to a Pacer for a long distance journey. Ideally, services like Plymouth - Penzance should be worked by 158s.

I agree with you about the sound factor and ride quality of 150s cf 142s, but the 150's seat-layout where there's hardly a seat which aligns with the windows properly is a big disappointment on the Gunnislake branch, for example, where there is some spectacular scenery, if only you could appreciate it.

Ah it's been a few years since I did the Gunnislake branch. Way back on 28th August 2005, when I had 150238 up the branch. Crikey how time flies...

I don't really remember any of it either :(
