Well EC are currently selling up to Friday 16th. So if they stick to their usual pattern tickets for Saturday the 18th should be released on this Thursday somewhere around 8am to 9am.

You can ask them, via their website, to e-mail you when the date you require becomes available.

The East Coast home page tells you when you can book their tickets up to. As said, it is currently up to Friday 16th. In the last month or two they have been releasing tickets on a more-or-less daily basis, possibly to spread the load for the popular summer holiday bookings. They may have gone back to weekly on a Thursday.

Whatever, was it Saturday 17th or Sunday 18th you are interested in?

Although it can be worth checking the website regularly - my experience was that by the time the e-mail goes out some tickets have been available for several hours.

I thought I had read something somewhere about a difference in when weekday and weekend tickets are released? Can't remeber if this was a specific company or not though!

Do they show on East Coast website first? Or are they on all TOC sites at the same time?

I'm asking because the tickets I'm looking for appear to be cheaper on the Scotrail website than East Coast. (I'm looking at the week before I travel to get an approximate fare). I'm looking at going out on 23/9 (Friday) and returning on 25/9 (Sunday), will I need to wait a week until the Sunday tickets become available?

The table on the National Rail web page has three separate columns for weekdays, Sat and Sun. There is often a week or two lag in the weekend dates:

http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/times_fares/booking_horizons.html

Unusually, SWT has a separate entry for the Exeter line, I think this dates from when they ran well into FGW territory and the different NR route often had differing deadlines...

I'm waiting to book tickets for 17th Sep as well,EC website still only runs to 16th at the moment.

edit: The Trainline is showing cheapest standard single for London-Newcastle on 17th as £109.70,but for my return journey on Monday 19th there are £13.50 fares available. Thing is of course I'd rather get both tickets directly from EC.

They have not yet released the tickets for the weekend. Just buy the rtn first, it shouldn't matter which site you use (though it is possible they may appear on one system shortly before another). They will update the "tickets available until.." notice after a few hours, but don't wait for that if they are available.

Yes,just bagged the return trip,£13.50 on trainline but only £12.15 on EC,plus I use TOD at my local station to save the £1 postage fee EC now charge. Will just keep checking site to get the outward leg later.

Yes they will become available - it's a matter of when, not if.

Don't use thetrainline; it is never better value than buying from the website of the TOC you are going to use.

It could be that there are some planned enginering works on those weekends but the exact details are yet to be confirmed so EC is unable to sell advance tickets until they know and can plan an ammended timetable.

Can't help but think that East Coast "may" be missing out here.

Travelling from Huddersfield to Norbiton on that sat I can go either EC from Leeds or Virgin from Manchester.

LDS > NBT, return showing at £92.00

MAN > NBT, 2 singles showing at £19.00 each way, total £38.00

No prizes for guessing which I just bought.

Maybe it has something to do with the great north run in Newcastle, as its that weekend and they know they can fill the trains

Just got an email saying they are waiting for information from Network Rail to see if they are carrying out engineering works on the excluded dates. So hopefully they're not and i can find out soon.

CrossCountry seem to be running buses from Berwick to Edinburgh on 25/9.

I'm taking part in the GNR this year which is why I want to know when the 17th is on sale so I can jump in and bag a cheap fare! I'm travelling up on Saturday, staying at a friends place and coming home Monday. Got the return leg sorted as posted earlier, just need the outward one.

You'll love it, I've done it 4 times, it's a great experience. Forget running for a time, just run to enjoy it
