It appears from the photos that high visibility clothing is no longer a must on the railway !!!!

The above apart there appears to be an extra cable between coaches at the same location as the RCH cable. I'm guessing this is for the AAR multilpe working that 66/67s use ? and that it can't work via the RCH cables as TDM does ?

The rest of them!

67 014 + set has just past my house on it way to Langley Green onward to B'am @ 16:45

Dosent look too bad, but id prefer the Mainline branding more if say, the Chiltern logo was in the faded blue as per Mainline - same goes for some of those stickers too, which i have to say, does slightly clutter up the ex Wrexham livery...Just my opinion though!

And what's up with the 'Business Zone'?

I was thinking much the same thing. I would imagine it is some kind of enhanced ticket thing, what with it being part of the restaurant coach and everything. Odd that signs are pointing to that coach specifically for WiFi when previously every coach had WiFi fitted in it. I cant see the WiFi being ripped out of the other coaches, but will it be turned off?

Yeah, I was thinking the same about the high viz. Truth is, there would be nobody at Stourbridge to enforce it in the day time, only traincrew would be at the depot and the guys doing the work on the coaches would be out of their line of sight half of the time.

As for the extra cable?

The one I have painted red here? That is the one that carries the WiFi signal (unusually, it is screwed into the coach rather than just plugging in like all the other cables) which ties in to my question about the WiFi being on or off in the other coaches. The cable is still in place, I presume it will still work despite the sticker on the outside of the train. Especially if the half hinted at/half promised addition of WiFi to class 168s is still going to happen.

Not sure if the set is off Network Rail metals, but by god that 'scaffold' they are using to affix the vinyls looks rather ropey!

Oh and trainspotter - was more reffering to the Mainline Branding their applying as to your photoshopped version - though if their listening, then perhaps its worth contacting Chiltern - Ill give it untill i see it in the flesh first though!

All this was done next to the running line, but the trains did not run upto B'ham Sunday morning as there was a bus service on instead. So who was going to yake notice??????

Dont want to piddle on the bonfire just yet do we!!!!!!!!!

They must have tried decals on both the loco and the trailer on the PC to see what i would look like. But as usual some Big Wig manager said "no no that looks good" dont matter about them trainspotter people!!!!!!!<D

There was a block on in Stourbridge yard for the duration of the rebranding process it is fenced off from the running line, why do they need a HVV!!

A few photos on my site of today's first runs with the newly re-branded coaches, including this one:

They look quite good, though the signage for wi-fi and the business zone rather spoils things to my mind.

Cheers, Geoff

I noticed when travelling on the line yesterday that a couple of coaches with the Blue & Grey InterCity livery have had their roofs painted in Chiltern blue.

Sounds like some of the ex Cotswold Rail Mk3s - Cotswold, when they had some Mk3s, did decide to repaint several of their Mk3s into their rather drab Silver with blue roofs and doors livery - If Fotopic was working, i could probably find some pictures...Time for a quick google instead!

I noticed that those decals point to wifi only being available in Coach B & the Business Zone....that'll irritate those in the other coaches. I wonder why?

According to the chiltern press release free WiFi will be available to all chiltern mainline customers from launch on Sept 5th. Confusing.

Had it confirmed. All Mainline trains will carry wifi, the loco-hauled stock however, just in a couple of coaches to begin with

WSMR only installed wifi in the first class carriage, however it leaks in to the next carriage. This will continue to be the case until the refurbished sets come out of the works with powered doors, so expect the first full MK3 wifi set towards the end of this year. Makes sense not to spend the extra money when it's going to be in works anyway really.

Can anyone sit in the business zone, or is it a first class-type thing?

I guess the "business zone" isn't actually formally launched yet? No reference on their website. They do however say
The provision of free wi-fi is a first for a franchised rail operator
which is odd, as National Express East Coast provided free wifi throughout.

I think I will grow to like the new livery. However, at first glance I don't think it goes with the traditional WSMR 'silver'. Maybe, that's just me because I miss WSMR but, who knows? The other day I saw 67014's DVT (can't remember the unit number off the top of my head) which you could still see the wording of 'Wrexham and Shropshire' visible. I don't think much elbow grease was used in removing the wording .

You can still see WSMR branding on the exterior of the rebranded mark 3 coaches too. Those vinyls must be incredibly difficult to remove to be fair.

I didnt know this either, I think it had been touched on earlier in the thread but apparently the rebranded train is due to be used in a television commercial.

It's out today on an unusual run:

Birmingham Moor St: 0903
Warwick Parkway: 0921
Leamington Spa: 0942
Coventry: 0958
(Rugby: 1012)
(Milton Keynes: 1046)
(Watford: 1118)
Wembly Stadium: 1214

Looks quite nice actually, in the flesh.

I'm guessing it did not pick up at Coventry?

Shame I missed it, what time is the return journey?
