Don't know the loco number but the rear of the loco is alight and very close to dangerous goods.

66518 is the culprit apparently. All XCs via Cov and Kenilworth as you'd expect!

Where exactly is this? Warwick station? Up or down line? Is the line closed? (etc)

Erm, given one poster reported a fire possibly involving dangerous goods, I'd say it's a fair bet that the line is closed!!! ;)

Now on the Chiltern website:
Line problem in the Warwick area.
Train services between Kidderminster and Banbury are being disrupted due to emergency services dealing with an incident in the Warwick area.
Engineers are working as fast as possible to restore services to normal. Delays of up to 60 minutes can be expected

Aye, but I'd rather know for sure than assume. I have checked the Twitters and it was first reported there at 10:53, and you can add five or ten minutes time from the incident happening and it making it onto the internet. The train has been standing still for an hour or so as I write this post.

I presume it will need assistance if the loco is knackered. There is a fairly steep gradient on the up road into Leamington Spa station where it can be put into the middle road if it fits. If not, then I guess assistance in the rear to be moved back to the goods loop at Hatton. There is an up to down crossover at Warwick, so if the back of the train is clear of that then crossing over should be a formality.

Selfishly I just hope everything is back to normal before I book on.

Latest reports are the fire no longer posses a threat to the surroundings or dangerous goods and the loco has been detached and moved away from the rest of the train.

At least it's not a 90 or 86 involved this time... or we might have calls for an end to AC freight haulage :D

On a serious note though - I hope everyone involved is ok.

I see this train practically everyday as it stands for its path southwards at Chesterfield. I can never see the loco because of the vegetation and this morning it was just setting off. It feels a little weird to think that problems lay just around the metaphorical corner.

Hope that it gets sorted OK.

Do 66's have 'fire alarms' in downstream of the turbo then? How would a driver know if they had a fire in the exhaust box / silencer?
