Do EC have another EMT HST set on hire? There was a full EMT set in Kings Cross tonight including both power cars. It may have been on the Lincoln train. Rear power car was 43050.

Whenever i have travelled on the EMT set it has been a mixed rake of debranded EMT coaches and EC coaches.

According to a gen list this is NL020 with 43044 and 43050.

Don't know anything else, though.

I thought it was a permanent transfer?

That was the HST which was transferred a few months back (an unbranded MML powercar, East Coast Logos on the carriages & the other powercar, and an EC buffet car). The one we're talking about here has just appeared today.

According to the current Rail one EMT set has been hired as cover while the earlier transferred set, now EC64, goes to Kilmarnock for a 'Mallard' refurb.

It also reckons that yet another HST set is to be hired in for 5 days in due course while a pair of 91s are being used for 'twin pantograph testing' as part of the IEP project - previously undertaken in 2009. Maybe they've mislaid the results of that trial...

I can confirm that the set was in full EMT livery with associated paraphernalia (wifi and maps!). I travelled on it this morning between Brough and Doncaster (and was going to post about it myself until I saw this thread).

My advice is get that set back from Kilmarnock and stop them making it into a Mallard set, paint the oustside by all means , but leave them nice comfy seats in place, as against all the seats on East Coast which are bloody un-comfortable. Who ever thought up them seats wants to be made to sit on them for a long journey. If travelling from Doncaster to London, I would rather go by Grand Cebtral or Hull Trains who have decent seats which are capable of been sat on without bottom discomfort even over that distance.
Bring back poper seats, even pacer seats are better than East Coast seats.

It's all a matter of opinion and taste: I personally think East Coasts' "Mallard" seats are excellent, I usually use East Coast on journeys of an hour to an hour and a half and experience no ill effects in terms of comfort.

Wow, EMT could spare 2 HSTs
If the refurbishment of the seven car Meridians has now been brought to a close (they were due to be completed by late July), then EMT have seven HST diagrams to be covered by eleven sets, so it's easy to see that they can spare a train or two.

Makes me wonder if EMT can spare a second HST, why are EC bothering to hire in a class 90? I mean they know a HST can keep to time, where a 90 might not.

I am also thinking, surely XC could borrow an EMT HST and use the spare voyager to strengthen other trains?

Come on, you know that makes too much sense for it to be taken seriously  ;)

EMT have 9 HST diagrams on weekdays. Since EC have pinched this latest set for a while, EMT have 9 sets for 9 diagrams... I don't think they can spare anything else!

I appreciate it wouldn;t have made everyone happy- but in some ways it is a bit of a pity that there weren't another 12-13 nine-car 222, allowing the MML HSTS to have been distributed to the ECML and GWML- with more, longer 22xs on XC.

I don't know about RAIL but the EMT set currently being hired in by East Coast is to cover the earlier transferred one which has both power cars out of action, I'm led to believe both engines are broken and will be MTU'ed in due course.

This was confirmed by East Coast back in June/July.

I think the EC branded EMT MK3 set is going around with a MML and NXEC power car (and an EC buffet (with mallard seats i guess?)

According to the 125 Group diagrams page, the 9 diagrams should be down to 7 by this point, though of course this might not have happened as planned.

It lists 7 diagrams, and then it lists two diagrams that applied while the 7 car 222 refurbishment was being completed. It then goes on to list two diagrams that would happen after the 7 car 222 refurbishment was completed (the stage we are in now). That makes 9.

However one of these (NL089), is a diagram to cover for a 5 car 222 in refurbishment. After the 5 car refurbishment is completed in early 2012, then there will only be 8 HST diagrams.

Oh yeah, I missed that bit at the bottom  Sorry about that, 9 diagrams it is.

Any news on how the mallard refurbishment is coming along? I don't suppose it'll be done by next Tuesday, (I know its unlikely)
