Tornado crewe to glasgow 21st September

On unnoficial elr forum this one is gathering debate as to where steam will come on. The advertised route is steam all the way from Crewe to Glasgow but using the Man Piccadilly Oxford Rd corridor.

I am wondering if anyone on here thinks, or indeed even knows if steam is likely to actually come on at Preston with diesel hauled as far as there.

Steam throught the oxford rd corridor is unheard of in preservation that I know of.

Can't see a charter finding a path over Castlefield Junction at that time in the morning and I can't see how steam timings will fit into such a long day trip. HF have a track record of over-egging the railtour...

I just can't see a path being available at that time on a weekday morning with the real problem being Castlefield and Ordsall Lane Junctions. There are at least 6 trains from Oxford Rd over Castlefield in the half hour together with trains from Victoria crossing the path over Ordsall and on top of all that the conflicting moves into Manchester via the three routes...

They maybe able run in the gap between the 07:45 Piccadilly-Edinburgh and the 07:54 Piccadilly-Blackpool N. No other service are booked from through Salford to Bolton between these two service's. Plus the 07:50 Piccadilly-Llandudno uses 13b during the week, it could have a quick run through MCO without delaying normal timetabled service's

This charter is now booked to depart Crewe at 06:19 and run via Denton into Manchester Victoria departing 07:46

The timings between Carlisle and Glasgow in both directions are shocking!

I was waiting for the 0812 Bolton to Man Airport when this pulled in to platform 4. The look on peoples faces was a joy, certainly wasn't expected and was a great sight. Then my train turned up.........old,dirty,too small and with the heating on full temperature! That's Northern Rail for you.

Did anyone else notice she wasn't sounding very healthy? On the way back from Glasgow she passed Uddingston making a high pitched blow off sound every stroke. Does anyone know what this could've been?

Most likely a cylinder cock not fully closed or possibly a piston rod gland not quite steam tight.

yes, it seems to have been doing that lately. If you look at some videos from the Severn Valley gala, it's doing the same thing. I suppose they must have picked up on it be now if it was anything to worry about, too much.
