Hi all,

I have for some time commuted from Peterborough to London, my destination being Barbican underground as this is the nearest station to my work. My current season ticket is Peterborough to London Zones 1-6 route any permitted.

I am looking to save money, and the first step is to change to an FCC only season ticket.
Next step is to investigate if a London Terminals ticket might be suitable in the following scenario:
I take the 0653 or 0714 PBO-KGX service which does not stop between Biggleswade or Stevenage and Kings Cross). Can I use my London Terminals season ticket to take the undeground from KGX to Old Street or Moorgate? Both Old Street and Moorgate are within walking distance of work.

Alternatively I note that there is a specific season ticket available from Peterborough to Farringdon - this is an FCC only ticket, can this be used between Kings Cross and Farringdon on London Undergroud services? Again, Farringdon is within walking distance of work.

Finally any advice on splits or other techniques to save money between Peterborough and Kings Cross will be much appreciated. I commute 5 days a week leaving Peterborough around 0700 and returing from London around 1645.

Many thanks
Neil

A London Terminals ticket is valid on services to Kings Cross.
It is also valid to Old Street or Moorgate by changing at Finsbury Park and travelling via Drayton Road.
It is also valid between Kings Cross / St Pancras Und. and Moorgate (via Circle, Metropolitan, Hammersmith & City and Northern Lines, but intermediately at Old Street ONLY

Have you tried FCC? It's grim indeed. Slow, noisy, rattly, no proper tables to work at, no power points, uncomfortable seats, either too hot or too cold, no buffet, you end up arriving in KGX exhausted.

I have tried it and it's fine - I generally read and think rather than work on my laptop, and convince myself that fresh air is better than air conditioning :D

Seriously though I will be conducting a one month experiment to check the impact of the change of trains and times on my commute and life in general compared to saving over £1,400 a year.

Don't be so ridiculous. The OP has stated they want to cut down their costs and FCC aren't that unreasonable. Stick to your First Class travel on EC (and continue complaining about the lack of attentive service from Peterborough) and let others decide what is most appropriate for them!

You Peterborough First Class folk are a grumpy bunch - I travelled on the 07:20 service from Grantham last week and some were frowning whilst I tucked into my Full English, having paid for a First Anytime Return as opposed to a deeply discounted First Class season...
