What? They put the set in for refurb, and released it with one coach half done and not repainted? Doubt it. Isn't that not the other EMT hired in set anyway?

Also, any refurb done is to Mallard standard, so yes, it would have the high backed seats.

Still very strange. I doubt it has been refurbished by East Coast though, more likely the other set on loan from EMT.

Although saying that, the original video you posted did have the East Coast decals. Someone in the know will clear it up.

Myself and another friend of mine got on the EMT set with East Coast decals on Friday going home and I too noticed the FGW seat covers.

Didn't really noticed the mixture of seating though, other then it was fairly full as always with very limited seats available, pity East Coast couldn't run more then one return working to and from Lincoln, :(

Looks like a photoshopped image to me, the video is certainly just a load of zooming on a still.

Bizzarly it's true - seems to have been noted by several people on various other forums...

Still seems strange though to have a mixture of ex original EMT Seats...And a row of 'borrowed' FGW seats, operating for an operater that uses a completly different type of seating arrangement altogether!

Could it be that Wabtec/whoever had begun stripping the carriage down for refurb only to have a call saying they needed it back in service. I imagine the IC70s are binned upon removal now, so maybe the FGW Grammars was the only thing to hand to get it back on thee mainline?

Or it's the DfT's sly way of announcing who the next franchise holder will be ;)

sounds plausible to me. UNLESS they have released it as some kind of on the job market research excercise!

They should have done the EMT sets out like FGW ones in the first place, they've done their 158s like that they should have given the HSTs the same treatment. Apart from the lack of tables and occasional bright lighting (they've dimmed alot of sets now), i see nothing wrong with the FGW refurb i think it is lovely to travel in.

Could they be updating the IC70's a quarter of a carriage at a time, (like new upholstery and paddings) and using these so that they can keep the set in service?

Yes they are, the legroom is better than any other standard class (apart from maybe Grand Central and Chiltern Mainline, but only just). Trust me when you live near Brum and are used to Voyagers the bigger seats and better space on FGW HSTs is a godsend!

IC70 seats suit shorter people who like to slouch.

Personally I like the FGW seats, as I'm tall and like to sit relatively upright.

It's definitely true, I saw it at Doncaster a while back and thought it looked very strange!

Luggage racks have been removed, the IC70s have replaced them and all the grammar seats have been kept in one place, rather than all over the place :)

Anyway to contact Wabtec and beg them for a bag of 4 seats when they throw them out :P

Interesting as i'm short and love slouching. I find the IC70s very comfortable, but prefer the new FGW ones. Mainly because of the legroom and the adjustable armrests, i can't slouch in voyager seats and i'm uncomfortable when sitting straight in them.

I prefer the seating as fitted to the FGW sets simply because;

1.) It has a proper fold out table for passengers using the airline seating.
2.) Has plenty of leg room.
3.) Actually has room for the emergency evacuation cards on the backs of the airline seating.
