Amanda Knox was acquitted last night. However briefly the Daily Mail published this (screenshots)

I must say that that I find it a bit sick that they've fabricated reactions from the families. Would it not hurt to have a "Breaking News: Knox Acquitted - More Soon" like the BBC do (with a basic few line story appearing a few mins later which is updated as reaction occurs)

I couldn't believe that they'd done that when I found out last night. They'd even used previous photos and claimed that she was "looking shocked at the result".

I think it's worth a complaint to the PCC.

'Free To Make A Fortune' says the Daily Mail website this morning.

I was slightly confused when I heard the verdict last night, because I thought they said she was guilty, only it then transpired she was guilty of accusing the barman of the murder (to which she must now pay compensation). The murder charge itself was overturned.

The Prosecution have the right to appeal once the court have taken their ninety days to draw up the report, but something tells me that once Knox gets back to America that's it. The US look after their own. When she gets to Seattle, case closed. She won't be going back to Italy.

Nonetheless, I'm hardly surprised by more garbage from a trash newspaper.

Am I the only person who thinks Knox and the Italian bloke were guilty?

It's hard to say.

On the plus side:

1) One man (the drug dealer from the Ivory Coast) has been convicted of the crime and is serving a sentence, so there is some justice for the family.

On the negative side:

2) Whether or not the kitchen knife that allegedly had DNA from both Knox and Kircher on it did play a part in the murder is still unsolved. Knox claimed she used the knife for cooking, but of course, that's debatable.

Do the online newspapers have "different outcomes" ready and then publish the right one? The majority of that article is just retelling the story...

If this is the case then perhaps someone clicked the wrong button, or misheard the official verdict. :p

Well a few times they have accidently published an obituary I seem to remember this happened to one of the George Bush's.

Edit to make clear I am not referring in particular to the Daily Panic but newspapers in general.

I am disgusted by the title of this thread. To use the words journalism and Daily Mail in the same sentence is beyond belief!

I can't believe there is anyone left in the UK that could be shocked by the standard of Daily Mail writing.

I appreciate that when a story has been building up for some time, and a "result" will break at the end of it, that newspapers will write alternative outcomes.

What I detest is outright lying. Fancy having the cheek in telling us she looked shocked! The article is a huge lie, even using an old stock photo of her.

The media in this country is insulting to our intelligence. I rarely buy a paper these days - I use the BBC app and website for my feed.

I actually reported this elsewhere, on another forum. One reply I have had has actually accused me of being more shocking for bringing attention to the article, perpetuating the error and propelling into the arena of false reporting.

So yes chaps, I am more shocking than a tabloid if that was ever possible.

He must be a Daily Mail reader I guess.

I cannot believe someone has replied in such a way. The media are just as culpable for their mistakes as those they write about. The media love to point out gaffes, mistakes, lies and despicable behaviour, and they aren't immune to it themselves.

There were a lot of angry tweets and retweets on Twitter yesterday about this.

Even the BBC aren't angels - but I rarely feel insulted by them.

I've lost all faith in printed media in the last few years. This latest episode only convinces me further that the media hold us all in contempt.

I feel the BBC are slipping, in terms of quality of their journalism. News presenters seem to follow a set piece of questioning tactics, vague opinion articles (generally first line being "scientists say..", poor online spelling and grammar editing, and a general move to style over substance. They're still probably the best out of news outlets at the moment (ITV and Sky are particular bees in my bonnet) however.

Printed media isn't worth the time of day, newspapers are firmly in the "telling the reader how to think" mindset. The best way to form an opinion of the news is probably to sit down with every paper, read them all, and average out the information you take in. Then you may get within a vague, grey area of the facts.

the thing I'm puzzled about (other than the fact that I've never understood why these murder cases are always the Front Page Story everywhere; is it just that people are unable to differentiate real life from soaps now, and think that these things are provided for their entertainment?), is why the, I think it was the Mail or the Express, they're interchangeable anyway, seem to refer to her (this Knox person) as 'Foxy'. Is this a kind of affectionate nickname they're made up for her, or is that what she (the Knox person) was known as by the people involved in this case? It seems rather curiously familiar.

I like the typo they've made on one of the photo captions.
"Media scum: Journalists, Photographers and cameras flooded the court room during the appeal sessions earlier today ahead of the verdict".

How very appropriate...

The trouble is the BBC (like other news outlets) simply repeats bulletins verbatim from agencies like Reuters without checking them.

I would agree here. Over the summer they published an article about UK growth rates that included the line "highest since the baby boom began in 1962". Now granted I'm a history student so it's kind of my 'job' to know these things but surely nearly everyone knows at least that the baby boom began in the immediate post WW2 period (or would at least expect he BBC to get it right)?

It's disappointing as I always used to hold BBC News in high regard but not for much longer I think.

I seem to recall this was a nickname that she got given in High School or college. Of course once the jackals in the media picked up on it they couldn't get enough of it and now continually refer to her as 'Foxy Knoxy'. To be honest this pretty much sums up how low they've fallen when they don't even have the decency to report using someone's actual name.

Especially when she was accused of a fairly high profile murder. The media love their nicknames though, no matter how inappropriate given the circumstances.

For some odd reason I always think of Seig, Heil! when the Daily Mail is mentioned?

I would like to see DM fined their entire turnover for the 2010-2011 tax year for lying. The PCC is useless, the only way to stop the tabloids running such stories is to fine them more then they'll make on the story.

It makes economic sense to get fined say £100,000 if your story pulls in £1,000,000 and it's reputation is already in the gutter so that is irrelevant.

On the lighter side here is a way to confuse a Daily Mail reader - tell them immigrants kill peadophiles.

Alternatively it's rock, paper, scissors with paedophiles, immigrants and cancer

Immigrants kill peadophiles
Paedophiles cure cancer
Cancer attacks immigrants

Amanda Knox is a heroine, a symbol of proper justice in this world. The Kercher family have stirred up a massive media campaign to defame this poor girl, with the Mail the prime culprit., and have frankly lost all credibility and sympathy from a vast majority of the public.
