That's a load of b******s tbh isn't it? What sort of idiot is going to try to get off a train when it's pretty obvious to any fool that it isn't at a station? And has been pointed out the doors are locked anyway. As for a passenger pulling the communication cord...or what ever the proper name is nowadays....that's not very likely either is it?

You have obviously never been on a train. People got off where there were no platforms for years when the slammers were out. Why do you think that there are so many big red signs on fences near the track saying "DO NOT ALIGHT HERE" or "MOVE DOWN THE TRAIN TO LEAVE"?

Oh, and people pull the passenger alarms all the time. If they've missed their stop, if they're a bit drunk or if they just want to cause trouble.

I've travelled by train thousands of times thanks very much, maybe you haven't though because those signs are only were it looks like you may be to able to get off, eg at the ends of a station platform.

Slightly wrong there! They were also installed at stations where there are short platforms - for instance, they are along the fence at Ash Vale where there is no platform at all, due to the fact the platform only takes 8 coaches and they run 12 coaches. The same can be seen at Alton.

The point is they're at a station, not dotted at random places along the line.

If you were at the back of a 12 coach train at Alton back in slammer days, you'd have no way of knowing you were at a station at night.

I remembe rthe term 'station stop' being introduced in BR days, so it isn't anything new or recent. I think it was merely an attempt to introduce consistency and technically correct language to on board announcements.

The automated announcements are particularly annoying on a stretch of line with a string of nearby stations. Try the trip between Brighton and Portsmouth. By the time you get there you are ready to jump into the harbour to cool off!

On the FGW trains I normally frequent, you sometimes get a message from the guard, but I've been on a few SWT trains lately, and the automated announcements are really rather annoying, particularly if like me you were doing Exeter - Waterloo.
As for "Next Station Stop" I've got no problem with it.

Neither have I. There are far bigger things that cause me irritation! Even the OP admitted it's a minor irritation!

"On behalf of myself, and the rest of the crew, I would like to thank you for travelling with (company)" ...

The "myself" thing seems to be creeping in more and more everywhere, for some reaosn people seem to think it is more polite ot be gramatically incorrect?

I would have thought with delays, cancelations, short forms, dirty coaches, expensive and confusing ticketing etc etc that grammatically incorrect sentences would be the least of people's complaints?

Why do the recently lengthened east-west platforms at Willesden Junction have little steps at the ends of the platforms instead of the traditional ramp?

So does every station / platform extension built in the past x amount of years.
