is there any particular reason for this, other than sheer irrationality?

The more obvious route via the North London Line is 'not available'. Whether this means not available due to engineering work or not available to HSTs at all, I couldn't say.

That would have been my non sarcastic answer, ;)

Class 43s are not permitted on the NLL, according to the Anglia 'gauge capability' baseline declaration from April 2009. Mk3 coaching stock is OK though.

A reliable source on the hst forum has posted it wont be out tomorrow, other than on its 'around the world' trip from West London to North London which departs OOC at 1230.

So it won't pass Lincoln next week on diversions, was there yesterday and I heard other spotters mentioning the Great Western HST but I thought they were talking rubbish.

I just saw a First Great Western HST pass through Loughborough station, heading south. (~16:35 30/10) Anyone know what this was? It's well outside of its normal territory!

Who unticked that box then I wonder, they used to go OO-BN irregularly for maintenance and the ECML Eurostar connecting service went that way did it not?

OO-BN via Derby, only on our wonderful railway...

Yes the GNER hire-in Eurostars used that every morning/night to/from North Pole TMD

EDIT - Cheers matt, that makes sense. Still 163 with 'Exeter Panel Signal Box' name would look good at Leeds

Please note I was supplied with the incorrect headcode by East Coast accidentally, the 16:33 Kings Cross to Leeds operates as 1D22 and not 1D32 - I've highlighted the train concerned above.

I apologise for the mistake and any confusion it may have caused, please note East Coast has now confirmed it is 1D22 and not 1D32 - this was a typo from the diagramming people at East Coast.

And those in coach D will see the screens and then wonder where they are on the other trains (I presume EC will keep them switched off!).

East Coast did far better then that today on the 16:33 Kings Cross to Leeds, they just cut the power to Coach D including lighting - far quicker method of disabling the screens

It left Kings Cross with power to Coach D, only to reach Stevenage a mere 20 minutes later with the coach in complete darkness so even better then your 30 minutes,

Not bad going for it's first day in East Coast service, is it?

I can see there desperate measures to keep the system off. The content will be licensed to FGW and their routes and nobody else. EC could get into a legal soup if they had the system on. The same thing is relevant in the airline industry aka if a BA long haul aircraft equipped with personal screens is subbed to operate a short haul route at the last minute the IFE system must remain off as they don't license it on that route and so forth.

Can't see how they need to cut all power from the coach though.

First people complain that the FGW HSTs are too bright and now that they're too dark. Some people are never satisfied. :D

I'm not complaining, makes a change to have a decent HST refurb on the route - the FGW refurb is miles ahead of the GNER refurb, the only difference is the lack of wifi.

I'm not including the East Midlands HSTs in the above statement as there's no point.

*I was actually just being sarcastic about my previous posts about Coach D in the hired in FGW set, it was just a electrical fault that got worse between Kings Cross and Stevenage, I don't know if the guard managed to get some lighting back but not only was the main lighting not available but also no emergency lighting.

How long is the emergency lighting supposed to last for then on rolling stock such as the HST?

Hmm I like the GNER job in standard over FGWs by far but I prefer FGWs buffet and First which are just mallard seats but with leather upholstery. How long is this set staying? Is the Inferior catering equipment not causing problems?

Only till the weekend - Wonder if the Buffet Car / Kitchen could give EC Some secrets / ideas on how to provide proper catering!

Monday 31st October to Friday 4th November:

So how long before someone sees the First logo and gets on it at Stevenage/PBO/KGX thinking it's an FCC train? ;)

Should make things interesting for a mate of mine, works on fgw's HST sets, Now to be commuting back up along the east coast on one!
