Another 7 - interesting both historically and visually.
I'd forgotten the South Yorkshire livery - thank goodness. I noted the 141 in the first West Yorkshire scheme in the background.

There's a few very good entries this week. I've voted for number 2, it's been a while since I last saw a picture of the SYPTE 114.

SoL is on the main line stretch used bu Durham Coast services as well as Metros, coal traffic and flasks to Hartlepool pass through as well as Northern units and GC ECS moves. :) HTH

#2 ... how ghastly ...... !!! I too like that #7 though, nice combination of light & shade coupled with some vivid in-yer-eye ...... ?? Garter Blue is it ??? or is that an LNER lighter blue. #7 gets my vote.

I'm confused, am I supposed to vote for the best picture 'photographically', i.e. full sun, framing, composition, lighting etc etc, or am I voting for the shot 'that is the rarest that makes me all misty eyed' ?

Quite! I'm afraid #7 doesn't really do much for me. Not sure which of the others to vote for at the moment though

I agree; so given that they all fulfill the criteria for the comp, I'm going to vote for the 'best' pic. I'm going for 9 as I like the (relatively) rare working with combination of rare Pendo and scenic background.

As ever, I think one should vote for quality - and 7 IMHO is well composed and executed. The misty-eyed comment is a tad unfair

Whats so good about taking a photo of a logo, yes it's rare, but it's not a particularly imaginative or brilliant photo, unless that's what the idea of these competitions are?

It's darker than garter blue, it's the BR navy blue that British Railways originally specified as the livery for express passenger locos when they were seeking out a set of standard liveries, but was decided against in favour of the brunswick green colour scheme, no doubt thanks to some strong lobbying from the Western region.

Can you imagine the outrage that would ensue if a Great Western King was to be painted LNER Garter blue? There's probably enough GWR purists who disagree with the navy blue scheme that 6023 has been painted into!

Congrats Temple Meads :)

Also thanks to all who voted for my shot :)
The only thing I would like to change about it really is taking TNT to the bridge going across the middle, but alas, some things can't be changed

Wow, I really am surprised by the popularity of this picture :)
Thanks to everyone who voted for me, I really do appreciate it!
The photo can indeed be used as an avatar picture if anyone so wishes, the best thing in my opinion is that I took this picture with a bog basic 6mp £25 compact camera, you don't always need whopping great SLR's to take a nice photo ;)

Whats so good about taking a photo of a logo, yes it's rare, but it's not a particularly imaginative or brilliant photo, unless that's what the idea of these competitions are?

When I was looking through possible pictures to put up for this competition, this was the nicest one I could find that fitted the criteria, people obviously like it, they are free to choose what picture to vote for just like you are, it wasn't meant to be "imaginative" or "brilliant" it just struck me at the time as a picture of the BR logo, nothing else was intended, particularly not this sort of competition.
I don't mind discussing this further by PM if you so wish mate, but for the record, no hard feelings :)

Finally thanks once again to whose who voted, a very welcome early Christmas present!
