Do any FGW stations actually have this product in stock as yet? It's usually available before the timetable change, yet Bath Spa told me earlier today that they have not as yet received them. If they don't get them soon I may never get one given I'll be away for two weeks...

Not unusual for stations to recieve them a bit late, it's rare I manage to get a copy before the timetable is actually in effect.

On a slight tangent, has anyone got the new SWT book? Waterloo gave me the one from May when I asked last week.

Does anyone know if they're likely to have these at Exeter St. Davids?
Would like to know before I make a special trip, also how much are they?

It is far and away the best timetable / info booklet I have ever seen used for a public transport, I'll put it that way.

It's a very comprehensive guide to travelling on FGW. Should be in stock now, including at Exeter St David's, I've managed to pick up a copy. Anyone else seen the seating plans, they're new to this issue. Picked up a SWT booklet at Clapham Junction recently as well, they are free but don't contain as much info beyond the timetables themselves.

I agree it is a very comprehensive guide, something that all TOCs should produce, and I would be happy to pay up to £4 for each, but they should not replace the NRT.

However, I have only had one copy, and thats because FGW dont deliver them to stations in South Wales even though, they are just as big an operator as ATW along the South Wales Main Line. :(

Come on FGW, please stock them in your South Wales serving stations! :)

They are only stocked in FGW ticket offices, which is why you can't collect them in South Wales. I'm not sure if ATW would stock the FGW timetable book for them.

After being told they would be stocked in Cardiff Central, when it came to it ATW said they would not handle them. So when my mate who's a Guard for ATW asked he got a very blank look! Ah well, maybe one or two will appear on ebay...

On a more positive note, SWT very kindly posted a copy of their new book. Why FGW won't post their book is beyond me.

Because there is a £4 cover charge. SWTs is, I believe, free.

Which is, incidentally, a 33% increase since the last FGW Network Timetable was released in May. No RPI+1 for this product! :p Still good value though. :D

SWTs is free, but they do charge £1 to post it to you.

I'd be quite happy to pay for the postage - cheaper than travelling to Bristol to pick the thing up!

Just out of interest, has anyone tried getting the book posted too them? Might be worth a phone to FGW customer services in Plymouth if they haven't, you never know, they might have a copy they're willing to send to you.

When I emailed to ask if that were possible, this was what they said:

We have combined all timetables for First Great Western in to one booklet with a staff guide and there is a small charge of £3.00. Payments for the timetable need to be made at booking offices in order that the charge is properly recorded and accounted for. The timetable can only be purchased from the following First Great Western stations.

Bath Spa, Bristol Parkway, Bristol Temple Meads, Cheltenham Spa, Exeter St Davids, London Paddington, Newbury, Oxford, Penzance, Plymouth, Reading, Slough, Swindon, Taunton, Truro and Westbury.

Can't see the response being any different by ringing...

Am I being thick, or is the only HST seating plan the one on page 31, for the (rare?) low density coaches?

Perhaps a little idea for somebody in fgw land to buy and post to those out of fgw land, with the receivor covering the costs of the postage and book.
I.e. person 1 goes into ex st d for example, buys a few books, postage say a quid each. Those who want them send payment of a fiver across to person 1.
Would save on eBay fees etc.
Not sure if such a "gentlemen's" agreement would work or be acceptable though.

Well said that man! I would certainly be grateful if someone could do this; I wouldn't want for someone to buy a stack of books only not to receive payment, (I'd happily pay in advance) but although I've only been a member on here a short while, have found everyone to be more than helpful when it comes to queries/daft questions etc.

Added to that, if someone did go in asking to buy 10 books and was asked 'why are you buying so many?' they could tell them 'they're for folk who can't readily drop into your 14 stations that stock them' and then they might realise there is an interest beyond their region.

I got mine yesterday, looks to be a top notch publication, I'll probably get the SWT one as well at some point, when I'm next at Salisbury/Soton Central.

Firstly, there may be limits of the amount sold per person, also, I don't think they are stocked in that much bulk, 10 copies could well clean some smaller stations out. Finally, if ATW will not handle them, as has been said above, how id this FGW's problem?

Unfortunately not, you have not completed the required the 5 posts to have PM's enabled, reply to this then you will be one closer, go else where on the forum (except the Quiz section) and post 3 further times and then we will be able to PM you!
