It is still shown as the duff if you were considering an afternoon leap only...

Aye, was planning to get the 13.xx off Newcastle to Carlisle if it was the 37. Probably just stay in the house today...

Been reported elsewhere that 47810 is back on it. Which explains why I'm in the house.

37423 stabled at Stirling at lunchtime, as it has ploughs fitted it's a reasonable assumption that it's on snow standby.

So basically this whole DRS thing is a massive damp squib. Yet another opportunity to get duff haulage that I and many others won't be taking up.

Do snowploughs really need ETH-fitted locos?

Was told that it was a duff on Friday, then back to a 37, then eventually it was 810 again I think. Hopefully might change in the next few weeks.

Hopefully as I want to get in at least a Sellafield - Carlisle one before it goes.

Nope.

It's immaterial what DRS use on the Sellafield job. It's for plant workers primarily, not 37 fanatics. 423 is one of the few engines fitted with ploughs (not to mention go-nearly-anywhere RA5) and therefore can be pulled off for ploughing duties. The Sellafield doesn't need a 37.

Yes, I'm aware of this, but some people appear not to have heard of disappointment or frustration. Had it been duffage from the start nobody would have cared, but three weeks' tantalising 37 operation being turned over to a duff is almost too much to bear. I've spent my whole life being bowled by duffs and the sooner the last one meets the cutter's torch the better. I really thought that the days of being bowled by duffs were well and truly behind us.

Think of it as just like old times then!

As a cruel aside, I've got yet another pair of 37's tomorrow. They're almost getting boring now.

Hopefully going to get chance to do this. What powers, doesnt matter as I like both 37's & 47's. Its the only locohauled passenger service train in the UK thats not booked to be GM power. Not to grumbled at in my view.

Sitting this afternoon at Kingmoor at the head of the Mk2s, was, you'll all be pleased to hear, a really really good loco. Not just a good loco, but a really really good one<D

So time for you to all get out tomorrow, just in case it doesnt last!
47810 will be glad of the attention:lol:

Hope one day that they get a couple of the 20s out of the depot for it.............that would be good

Good if you like being freezing cold.

I'll swap you that 47 for the 37 that's just failed miserably on my train.

Each to their own, but 37s for me - always. It's what I grew up with. But having said, other loco classes do get dabbled with!

In regards to the 'Glowex', if it goes back to 37-haulage after the 12-week lay-off then I shall be skipping merrily to Carlisle on one of my days off work! If it stays as a strumming device then it saves me a trip!

If It does stay with 37s after the trial, I'd really love to head up, much prefer a 37 to a 47 as Mr Quiff says, Its what I remember as a kid :)

in cash terms I wonder how the runs doing..breaking even? Hope so as it wil be hopefully kept

Sure BNFL or whatever they are called were the ones who were subsiding it? I've heard several figures banded around, but they have been decently loaded so might be making a few quid.

DRS as the operator for all things BNFL will be making a loss on the tickets. Its not just the money generated from the service that they take into account at this time of year. there are far more costs to be saved by having staff "shiped in" than the cost of a few MK2s and the locos.

Oh......................and I was joking about the 47s being best, just wanted to see what it generated as a response <D

You could call it a loss, but I prefer subsidy. It provides a good service for those who want to travel south from Carlisle earlier than they used to.

The only problem I see with it is that the Northern staff on the 06.15 get on at Workington, so could be losing revenue before there (although it is unlikely).

Given that BNFL (or whatever their name is today) have both removed the bus subsidy and are making it increasingly difficult to drive on-site, this can only be a good thing - as long it stays.

I am unsure of the current situation but it was the case that you were only allowed to drive on-site if you had 2 or more people in the car (to encourage use of the buses... which now aren't there).

They are going to be moving a large number of people to new offices based in Whitehaven within a few years, this is good, if people do not need to be on-site they shouldn't be, bringing those people into town will shorten commutes (both by distance and by virtue of people going in more directions, ie quicker) and bring business into the town (people out for lunch etc).

There will always be people required on site and the more that can go by affordable and timely public transport the better.
