If this is the same as at all other EMT's stations, its simply for travel to and from St. Pancras. Initially at any rate.

There are definitely plans for a Nottingham Oyster type system, I think it's to be funded via the workplace parking levy.

There are also plans to add a secure area within the bike dock at Nottingham which will be accessed using the smartcard.

I think there are also plans for a bike hire also using the cards.

I imagine it'll just be an extension of the Citycard - which can already be used as an Easyrider Anytime card on NCT. Given the current speed of things with EMT's heavily delayed SmartCard rollout, I'd be surprised if there was a useful system in place when they depart!

i just hope that they won't expand the tram any further west of stapleford
Hmm, Why?

If as I suspect the East Mids HS2 station is on part of the Toton Sidings site, there would be a strong business case to extend NET the mile or so down the hill from Bardills roundabout (the 'Toton park and ride' terminus about to be built) to the HS station. This would be a low cost option to achieve dispersal from the HS2 station into many parts of Greater Nottingham, and would reduce the numer of local rail services to be re-routed through Toton.
(obviously I'm indulging in wild speculation here).

Once you've got the NET to Toton sidings you may as well extend to Long Eaton Town Centre with another branch to Stapleford town centre, since both are also within a stones throw. I get the impression Stapleford could use the investment.

As for a business case for extending into residential areas beyond Long Eaton and Stapleford town centres, I really dont know.

Also going further west than Phase 2 would need to be funded differently, as you couldn't justify using Nottingham parking levy money for work in Derbyshire (in the case of Long Eaton).

Is the Working Parking Levy introduced by Nottingham City Council not going towards the tramlines going out to the county (Nottinghamshire County Council and City of Nottingham have been totally separate for a good while now!)?

I very much doubt Derbyshire County Council would be willing to fund a tram service from Nottingham.

You are quite right that the workplace parking levy would not be used to fund tram extensions outside of Nottingham city, but not quite as right in saying that the tram goes into the county.

The new tram lines stay within Nottingham City not the county (although the line between wilford and silverdale will be right on the boundary).
Wilford Silverdale and Clifton are all part of Nottingham City, as is all of the line to Bardills.

Not true. The section of line from University Boulevard to Beeston, Chilwell and Toton Lane Park & Ride (Bardills) is outside the city boundary. They are within Broxtowe Borough Council, part of Nottinghamshire. The map you linked to clearly shows this.

The City of Nottingham became a unitary council in 1998.

It's true Phase 2 extends into Broxtowe and appears that the capital funding is via the citys WPP levy. However, many of those paying the levy will be people driving in from other districts, so I suppose there is some justification there.
I suppose Phase started out as a City and County project until the county went tory and tried to kill the whole project. Derbyshire has also gone tory.
However if HS2 does stop at Toton that will create a necesity for improved connections.

That's a weird map - it annotates Alexandra Park (which is about 10 smallish streets) but not Clifton or St Anns.

But yes as others have said it rather proves my point. The City of Nottingham is rather awkward and small and it rather narks me that those in the County who will probably benefit most are not directly funding the scheme. I guess you could argue that the WP levy isn't just going to affect City citizens either (perhaps it will affect them least?).

Hmm just as well the City& Borough councils seem to be able to work together otherwise we'd never get anything done. A shame the county council tried to do everything they cold to stop the tram, knowing the city was determined to make it happen, all they achieved was to cost the project more money in legal bills which will ultimately get passed on to payers of fares and WP levy.

maybe the various Boroughs should merge into 'Greater Nottingham Council' and the county council can go hang..

Trees felled all along Uni Blvd, through chilwell, Excavators now removing top soil from Toton park & ride (/temporary construction compound).
Lots of boarded up shops on Chillwell High Rd but no demolitions as yet.
