Greater Anglia Vacancies -Trainee Mainline Driver

Saw this thread and thought I'd stop by and have a look as I applied for this last spring too and had largely forgotten about it until going through my emails the other day. I completed the online assessment at the time and never heard back so interesting to hear that they're still getting in...

Network rail - Train Delay Attributor

Can’t add too much more to what 800002 has said but the route I work for does 12 hour shifts, though that’s not commonplace anymore. Consistency and thoroughness is key as data quality is audited constantly and communication of course. Making sure the templates are used including phoning the...

Qualified Drivers Southeastern - All Depots

Yeah, kicking myself on that one in hindsight.

Qualified Drivers Southeastern - All Depots

I have noticed that there's not many young faces in the cabs here so that explains it I guess. Pity I never applied for the new TL depot when it came up a couple of years back - see them passing on HS all the time.

Qualified Drivers Southeastern - All Depots

What is it about Ashford that makes it so unlikely though? I know HS never takes on trainees but I'd have thought the mainline depot would need an intake at some point?

Qualified Drivers Southeastern - All Depots

Yeah, can't say I've ever seen any trainee posts advertised here so far which is a shame. Relocating to the SE metro area isn't something that's probably on the cards really - sooner move further afield if anything but relocation is a tricky one in general.

Qualified Drivers Southeastern - All Depots

Well, I for one would be very interested if it were to go out to trainees at some point - I live a 10 minute walk from the depot here!

    Newcastle to Munich via Train

Also worth considering the Brussels-Cologne-Frankfurt-Ascaffenburg-Nuremberg-Munich route too. Can be cheaper than the Paris option but of course, you don’t get to use a TGV (though I’m biased as I do love an ICE) and you would have to change at Frankfurt Flughafen Fernbahnhof or at the...

Definitely but still worth considering if it’s the job itself and not just the financial element that you’re looking for.

    Will Open Access Operators return?

Thoroughly agreed. Seeing how Lufthansa do it with DB for ICEs appears to work well. I for one would love to see XC return to being more of a widespread intercity operation with daily extensions to various places - not really been seen as viable so far I don’t suppose but things like this might...

    Will Open Access Operators return?

True but I guess what I mean is that demand will outstrip supply when it comes to domestic air travel, especially in light of the collapse of Flybe and the unknown quantity of what BA, Easyjet and Ryanair will offer post lockdown. I’m sure I heard something about there being a ban on internal...

    Will Open Access Operators return?

Long term demand for the OA operators (especially the future First London-Scotland route) is probably going to be increased in the light of reduced demand for air travel I reckon, given its hard to tell how much of the domestic flight market is ever going to return.

    Media Coverage of COVID -19

Absolutely agree. I think the approach varies unsurprisingly as to the quality of the outlet but it continues the trend that, as the mainstream media knows it's on the decline in the face of the social media age, it seeks (often underhand) ways to garner attention. I've been saying for ages now...

Paying back the cost of Covid-19

Add to this that we already have one of the poorest state pensions in Europe and that the cost of living is only going to increase as time goes by, cutting the state pension would, I feel, be madness - and I say this despite having the fortune myself of being in the RPS!

We must enable the economy to recover as soon as practicable

I think we should view two things when considering the end of this lockdown: the immediate impact and the long term changes. For example, I think working at home is going to have to remain in force for a good while longer yet as part of the social distancing measures but the long term impact of...

    Innotrans 2020 Moved to 2021

I really must put more time into learning German. I love the country and go several times a year. Knowing the shortage of train drivers they have too, it definitely makes it seem quite a tempting career move one day.

    Innotrans 2020 Moved to 2021

My understanding from reading elsewhere is that anybody can purchase a ticket but I might try and find out more definitively.
