DfT responsibility for structures in Scotland

I was passing the red brick bridges over Eastwoodmains Road at Williamwood station and noticed that the disused one has a DfT reference number painted in it. Do they carry responsibility for some structures in Scotland?

    East Kilbride/Barrhead electrification updates

Still no sign of planning applications for the more major aspects such as East Kilbride station rebuild or bridge works on the branch.

Glasgow Queen Street refurbishment and remodelling

Glasgow Central low level, the line was closed. If you want to see more of it there is a fantastic thread on the urban Glasgow website.

    East Kilbride/Barrhead electrification updates

This was discussed a few posts back. Being an underbridge, it’s not required for electrification so one for the roads department. A similar issue exists on Nitshill road adjacent to the station where there is dual carriageway either side but single under the bridge causing a bottleneck.

Scotrail future plans for network enhancements

Interesting to see how much electrification work has already been contracted - Barrhead, East Kilbride, Maryhill, Borders, Fife, Kilmarnock and Perth If I read it correctly.

What stock will Scotrail be using on the Levenmouth line when it reopens?

What has become of Hitachi’s proposal to fit some 385s with batteries and where were they intended to be used? Regarding the north Clyde, it has been supplemented by 321s converted to 320s. As most of them end up being used in tandem to form six car trains would it not be sensible, if any more...

What stock will Scotrail be using on the Levenmouth line when it reopens?

When Cathcart/Neilston was electrified many of the stations had 9 car stop markers, the exception being Crosshill IIRC. Since then many of the platforms have been shortened, the most obvious being Queens Park with its exit path now at track level.

    East Kilbride/Barrhead electrification updates

There looks to be room towards the camera to achieve a better alignment, removing the dog leg. Height may not be such a big issue as something without arches could offer more clearance and a reasonable gradient towards Clarkston Toll to the left of the picture.

What stock will Scotrail be using on the Levenmouth line when it reopens?

Are there enough 318/320 to do that without causing problems on their current routes?

    East Kilbride/Barrhead electrification updates

Apologies, I’d thought they were separate projects.

    East Kilbride/Barrhead electrification updates

I believe that’s the case. These bridges must be about 150 years old so time for new ones! The road alignment is more suited to horses and carts than double deck buses and HGVs, particularly the one carrying Clarkston Road.

    East Kilbride/Barrhead electrification updates

They could reintroduce termination at Busby to facilitate this. 1624871232 This is actually covered in a Network Rail presentation on Paisley Canal electrification (I’ve posted it in the electrification resources thread at the top of the page). The problem is the arched bridges of which there...

Worst Ferry Crossing you’ve been on?

To be honest that looks fairly tame compared to even relatively sheltered Cal-Mac berthings. Many of the Greek island skippers will have learned their trade on former Clyde vessels, most of which were sold to that region at their end of service in Scotland.

I also wondered what the situation was with these bridges regarding current permissbile clearance but, having seen some on the Shotts line, think they should be OK.

Many thanks for the photos. Do you know if the masts are continuous between the two sections or is there a gap?
