Which TOC is better for trainee driver ?

Yes, I was a guard for SWT and enjoyed every minute of it and I would still recommend it now if asked. But since I have left and SWT was taken over by SWR, it seems to get a lot worse press and I only see what’s said from the outside, that’s why I asked the question

Sorry to disappoint you but I haven’t worked for SWR See previous reply

Which TOC is better for trainee driver ?

I have, in between both depots so travel not an issue. Both have / are going through difficult periods with timetables and infrastructure issues. One is getting new trains the other almost has a standard stock. And I was asking for other people’s views rather than being questioned

Which TOC is better for trainee driver ?

Southern at the moment but how long can you wait for a course date? Is it better just going for the company that offers the first course date? Both positions are metro work, are there any major differences?

Which TOC is better for trainee driver ?

Is there any major differences between TOCs when it comes to accepting a position as a trainee driver? Is Southern better than SWR or should I go for the one that offers a course first and not worry about the company?

Travelling distances from depots for train drivers

I personally think they can be strict, as they will have a lot of applicants to choose from. I was asked again at interview about how I would get to work and how long it would take. Good luck

Ok, let’s keep the Oyster PAYG cards and invest some of the deposits in the proposed Tram extension to Sutton or a new fleet of either longer trams or more trams as Westfield seems to have now decided on a date to revamp Croydon town centre

    Croydon Tramlink

While the previous post is correct, I think it would be helpful highlighting the following (from the report) Only 66 paper tickets issued each day, down from 250 last year. Cash price for paper ticket is higher than Oyster/ contactless and doesn’t allow the ‘hopper’ journey to be used. The...

SWR: Guards/RMT Industrial Action. Next strike dates: 30/31 August, 1/2 September 2019

So the driver is controlling / driving the train, he goes over a balise at say the end of the platform and can then just let go until the train is ready to depart the station again? Sounds like a clever system that has been designed to work on Crossrail that they think could be rolled out...

    SWR Guard Positions

Recruitment process was good, I originally applied for Wimbledon, didn't pass all the assessments but retook after the 6 month wait and was offered Waterloo. Training was good @ Basingstoke and then route learning from Waterloo. I enjoyed doing the job and it was what I expected it to be. I had...

    SWR Guard Positions

Hello From what I can remember, I started training school (with SWT) at the beginning of June and finished my route learning towards the end of August, and went live (fully qualified) on 1st September. Hope this helps and good luck

Isn't the Dingwall Loop something to do with the Westfield development and access to their car parks?

Parking in Ikea is good, people disappear in there for hours, don’t think there is a time limit.

    Tram driver

There is parking on the streets around the depot but if you get a space is another thing. Have you thought about parking near a tram stop and getting the tram in?

    Train Guard Interview

They may also ask you how you will get to work if on an early shift that starts before trains start running, (Waterloo has very limited parking)

Applying for a guard job with South Western Railway and I’m concerned about the future job security

Ibra, don't give up if it is what you really want to do, you can ring up HR after 6 months and ask to retake the test.

Applying for a guard job with South Western Railway and I’m concerned about the future job security

I think you should go for it, I left a job that I was in for 10+ years, took a pay cut (while training) and am the sole earner and married with two children. Yes the future for non commercial guards on the suburban depots isn't long term but SWR are still recruiting and after six months you can...

    GWR Vs SWR

I would say depot location, it now takes 10 minutes to get to my work rather than the 45 - 60 minutes it used to, and IMO when working shifts it really helps.

Commercial Guard Assessment help please ? Anyone?

You should receive a pack of practice material along with your invite no fewer than 7 days before your assessment day, practice everything in the pack as the tests are almost the same format with the exception of the concentration test where the practice material is letters and the actual test...
