East Coast Mainline delays 28th November

Seems that something happened between Newark Northgate and Doncaster. The usual 21 minute journey between these took some 5 hours!!!

Trivia: Longest distance between any two London terminals?

I have too, albeit with a weekend in Edinburgh in between

Trivia: Longest distance between any two London terminals?

You misunderstand, I’m looking for which two London terminals are the furthest apart in terms of the most direct NR only route. Perhaps we could make this more interesting by excluding the overground.

Trivia: Longest distance between any two London terminals?

Not sure why he didn’t just change at one of the suburban Glasgow stations with services to both Central and Queen Street (Partick?)

Trivia: Longest distance between any two London terminals?

London Bridge to Victoria could be done through East Croydon, you don’t need to go all the way to Brighton. Charing Cross to Waterloo/Victoria could be done via changes at London Bridge, East Croydon and (in the case of Waterloo) Clapham Junction, no need to be going anywhere near Portsmouth.

Trivia: Longest distance between any two London terminals?

Yes and yes. I’ll say fastest in terms of time as opposed to miles travelled.

Trivia: Longest distance between any two London terminals?

Don’t care about tickets, just the fastest national rail only route between any two terminals

Trivia: Longest distance between any two London terminals?

Suppose I wish to travel between two London terminals but I’m constrained by not being allowed to use the tube, buses, walk, use a taxi or any other form of transport other than national rail. For example, if travelling between Victoria and Waterloo, then the fastest acceptable route is to go...

London Airports into the city centre - best options

Fair do’s. I do London to Falkirk return six times a year and it’s usually a 3/3 split of train or flight. I’ll take a flight if I’m only going for the weekend because STN is very accessible for me on a Friday night straight from the office and with it only being a couple of nights then hand...

London Airports into the city centre - best options

Let’s count the errors in your post: 1. Leaving Falkirk at 10:30 for a flight that takes off at 12:10 is not a very good idea. As you say with google maps this gets you in to the airport just 73 minutes before the flight. Risky. 2. You’ve made the crude assumption of hand luggage only. If the...

London Airports into the city centre - best options

Garbage. I can leave Falkirk High tomorrow at 11:04 and be in Central London at 16:38 via a connection at Edinburgh Waverley. Now, to be in Central London at that time via air travel means you’d be wanting to land at LHR/LGW/STN by 3pm latest, which means taking off at 2pm. Given travel time...

London Airports into the city centre - best options

The best option for the OP here would be to take the train all the way from Edinburgh to London. Minute for minute it’s about the same time due to airport faff, it’s often cheaper and is a hell of a lot more convenient. Tottenham Hale is then a simple Victoria line train from King’s Cross...

Stansted express is diverted and I’m confused about my ticket validity

I’ve been away this weekend, flying from Stansted, and I took the Stansted express to the airport on Friday. I bought an open return with my 16-25 railcard from Tottenham Hale to the airport but I’ve just realised that there’s a service alteration tonight with the late night trains calling at...

    Fry up at Kings Cross

Hi everyone, Got an early start at King’s Cross on Friday, 8am up to Edinburgh to spend Christmas with the in laws and Boxing Day with my folks. In order to fuel myself for the long journey I’m going to need a full English in my belly. Is there a spoons or something at the station that can...

Changing zones on annual tube travelcard

I currently live in London zone 2 and paid £1,320 for an annual zones 1-2 travelcard that runs from 5/1/17 until 4/1/18. I did this because work runs one of those season ticket loan schemes so I could take advantage of the cheaper rate of buying a yearly pass rather than splashing out on...

Rail travel on Spain's east coast?

Me and a couple of mates are considering flying to Barcelona in July, spending a few days there then heading down to PortAventura for a couple of days there then on to Benicassim for the music festival and finally on to Alicante for the flight home. Just wondering if anyone knows the...

Trainline selling advanced singles before TOC?

I'm a Scotsman living in London and I always plan my trips home far enough in advance that I get the best deals (often £40 return for standard class or less than £40 single in first class) I usually put the ticket alert on trainline and wait for the email but then actually buy the ticket from...

Call for double-decker trains on Edinburgh - Glasgow services

Wasn't there talk of a new non-stopping route to be built between the two cities? Still baffles me that the quickest route between them goes up the back way through Falkirk whilst the more direct route that runs parallel to the M8 takes longer.

    WCML sights

The weirdest thing about the ECML for me (Speaking as a Scotsman who has probably made about 10 return journeys in my life on the ECML) how there just doesn't seem to be any semblance of midlands. You leave the Northern town of Doncaster and within 20 mins you're at Newark Northgate which is...
