    Platforms of Last Resort

The bridge doorway is boarded up, & the platform is covered in growth. Can't remember if the platform edgings are still in place, they've been removed at Northfield.

The major issue of trees falling onto the railway during storms. What can be done about it?

This is, generally, rubbish. Man-made embankments & cuttings were designed to be stable without trees/vegetation. Extensive root systems can actually damage the structure. Grasses can be useful for keeping the surface soil knitted together & slowing down water run-off. Trust is earned & must...

New Highland Mainline Bridge at Moy

It's got greater clearance than the existing/old bridge, not only is it slightly higher, but it's also a flat deck & not an arch. The B9154 can be accessed less than 1.5m south, so won't be an issue.

New Highland Mainline Bridge at Moy

Better images here. http://murform.com/portfolio-item/a9-dualling-project-inverness/ It does look like it's near enough square, which would make the rail part as wide as the new roadway.

    Transport proposals for Stirling

Not much detail is there... New Rail Station South of Stirling The 'indicative location' appears to be very barren. A bit further north & the old Bannockburn station site is right next to the A91. A new rail station near Causewayhead Surely best served by bus? A new rail station between...

    Network Rail's vegetation problem

Why does it need to be a live railway? There are often long stretches of line closed for work, when the actual work site is only part of the stretch closed. Or if there's been major works, keep it closed for another day so a big team can go in & do the work.

Merseyrail customer issued £20 Penalty Fare due to there being no facility to print the ticket

but that graphic, as you've pointed out, does not say "you must have a printed ticket" As for warnings & signage, there is simply far far too much of it, so most of it gets ignored due to 'information overload' In the real world, people are buying tickets for lots of different things online...

    Alstom Aventra Hydrogen

Even if/when the hydrogen fuel-cells get cheaper, they still need fuel. Hydrogen as a fuel is only cheap where it's available as a waste product, otherwise it's expensive to make. It's also then expensive to transport.* Manufactured hydrogen is going to be more expensive than electricity...

West Midlands Trains: Train crew unavailability

It's been a problem for years & years & years. It's a very competitive place for rail staff in the Midlands, as there's so many operators; WMT, XC, Avanti, Chiltern, freight operators

Westminster City Council demand immediate end to Class 68 operation into Marylebone due to pollution

IANAL but, who is going to bring the litigation, & against whom? If it's on noise nuisance grounds, then fencing along the station boundary with acoustic fencing, & possibly changes to the loco exhausts, could be enough of a defence. The defence may also be able to have the affected properties...

Midland Metro - full closure from Saturday 13 November (also Sydney)

West Midlands Metro services have been suspended for 4 weeks initially. https://westmidlandsmetro.com/using-the-metro/service-status/ Service was previously withdrawn 11 June over the same issue. A reduced service resumed on the 14th...

    Alstom Aventra Hydrogen

It's already in the plans for Scotland, but they're planning to deal with the 'difficult' routes last, as that gives time for various technologies to mature. The environmental benefits from getting Perth, Dundee, Aberdeen, & the commuter routes around Glasgow & Edinburgh electrified massively...

230001 in Polmadie Depot for COP26

Oil heating, manual doors, basic toilet, no cab radio, safety systems etc The only electrical items on the BEMU/Gemini were the motors, air brake & lights. The 3car 230 also carries about an extra 70 passengers seated. So, your not comparing like for like.

Westminster City Council demand immediate end to Class 68 operation into Marylebone due to pollution

I meant more specifically the actual shared section, where it's claimed there's an issue. Amersham-Aylesbury, or the route from Marylebone as far as the shared section, would still be electrified, & so would the main Chiltern route. Batteries, as long as proven to be reliable, do change the...

Westminster City Council demand immediate end to Class 68 operation into Marylebone due to pollution

Where are EWR going to have a depot? If it's at the western end, then couldn't Chiltern also use space on the same site? In terms of the shared tracks between Amersham & Harrow, why not battery? It's ~15miles, & Vivarail state they have an 80mile range. (To Aylesbury is only 30miles) Wire up...

Westminster City Council demand immediate end to Class 68 operation into Marylebone due to pollution

Are you claiming that the Business Rates & various levies that someone like Sainsbury's pays on their London HQ are 100% covered by their London stores? Corporation Tax? That their non-London stores don't pay anything towards the HQ staff, who are paying Income Tax & NI, & spending money in...

    Network Rail's vegetation problem

They are not a 'solution' though, merely band-aids. Leaf fall timetables are chaos. RHTT runs are spending money to not fix the problem. Also, what happens if/when it gets worse, & the RHTT needs to run every day on each line, or the process simply stops working? There could be plenty of...
