    Suggestion for Metropolitan Line extension

I was thinking why Abbey Wood was chosen as a terminus on Crossrail when I went on it last. I would have thought leaving South London alone and continuing east from Canary Wharf to Barking would have been a better shout, and onto C2c.

Overground Barking - Clapham/Richmond - Are through services feasible?

Is an LO OOC station going ahead? Should have been built with Crossrail anyway.

    ICE trains to St Pancras?

    They did indeed. https://twitter.com/Marshrail/status/1052632821876035584

Boris is talking up Crossrail 2

I know they can't afford it, which is a shame.

Boris is talking up Crossrail 2

As a middle South Londoner, I really think what this area needs more is not Crossrail 2, but Southern Metro services being taken over by the Overground. As I've said before, some parts of South London, such as Upper Norwood, are incredibly remote places, and getting to a station that may only...

Boris is talking up Crossrail 2

I think Crossrail 2 will happen, but without the Chelsea and Tooting/Balham sections. Maybe even with the Southgate branch axed as well.

    Suggestion for Metropolitan Line extension

I really don't get this joke, although it's been going around this forum for years. I mean, who cares if people share their fantasy lines? As a casual enthusiast, I find that much more interesting than talking about the day to day management of the railway. It's pretty much why I don't bother...

Manchester Piccadilly HS2 station - why do some people insist it shoul be an underground through station?

Because it should be. We shouldn't be building termini stations in the 21st century, and it would also allow the potential of through Birmingham, Manchester, Scotland services in the future.

Overground Barking - Clapham/Richmond - Are through services feasible?

Hence why I find it so baffling OOC wasn't built as an initial LO/Crossrail interchange before HS2 comes along.

Overground Barking - Clapham/Richmond - Are through services feasible?

I've wondered whether there'll be any gain in extending it back to Kentish Town and through Thameslink. Would relieve the Northern line around the Tufnell Park area but not provide much more new journey opportunities considering the Victoria Line will always be faster.

Overground Barking - Clapham/Richmond - Are through services feasible?

Funnily enough I had this thought today too. Send it down towards the Midland Mainline to Dudding Hill and build a new station just south of Gospel Oak?

Should London Overground take over the Watford-Clapham WLL service?

The West London Line needs serious work done to it. It's pretty overcrowded and Clapham Junction becomes absolutely clogged with people changing from the Southern Metro services to the Overground in the mornings and evenings. Ideally, it needs to be ramped up to the same frequency as the East...

How should the Hayes & Harlington bay platform be utilised?

Maybe we need a London to Reading high-speed line in that case.

Longest scheduled non-stop run for "suburban" stock?

There used to be a train from Welwyn Garden City to Kings Cross that was a pair of 313s that ran fast from Hatfield to Finsbury Park. Incredible ride; suspension going crazy, traction motors screaming through Hadley Wood Tunnels, bouncing out of your seat almost as they rushed over the points at...

    Thameslink 2023 timetable

Could Thameslink eventually become a single, high-intensity metro route? Would probably be quite popular if transferred to London Overground and Camberwell/Walworth stations reopened. Obviously Bedford-Brighton would stay.

Scotland, Brexit & IndyRef2: Implications, considerations and similar (including impact on rail).

    1. At the very least this is the situation now. The most recent polling predicted that Labour would win 284 seats in a General Election. If it wins the same amount of seats as it did in 2010 in Scotland-41, this gives them a seat short of a majority. 2. No reason at all, but unfortunately we...

Scotland, Brexit & IndyRef2: Implications, considerations and similar (including impact on rail).

You cannot call any strain of nationalism "progressive". Scottish nationalism may think its left-wing and liberal, but its nationalism is defined from the notion that it is left-wing and liberal in comparison to England. Which means it still needs, like all nationalist sentiment, an "other" in...

Scotland, Brexit & IndyRef2: Implications, considerations and similar (including impact on rail).

Then the Tory leader would have been overthrown, replaced by a hardliner, beaten Corbyn and we would have still had a hard Brext.

Scotland, Brexit & IndyRef2: Implications, considerations and similar (including impact on rail).

This thread is really amusing. It's like a microcosm of England's screwed up social cohesion that led to Brexit and will forever impede our re-entry to the EU.
