TGV Sensation of Speed At 320 km/h

Highest I managed to snap on single deck 1st class TGV Strasbourg to Paris in September 2019. I wasn’t aware the line was 320 until I looked out the window and thought it felt very fast.

    Stations to avoid and why

Patronage is (in normal times) incredibly high on the last arrival from Manchester on a Saturday night.

XC services allocated for Double Voyagers

Was the extra carriage on the 0805 taken from the 0731 BHM-MAN? If so then how busy is that service normally? Monday to Thurday the 0805 MAN-BHM is fully rammed, you'd struggle to board at Wolves and sometimes even Stafford. I've failed to get a seat on that service many times when boarding at...

Stoke-on-Trent to Manchester cancellations AM peak 04/03 - any ideas why?

Can confirm that 331021 is correct. I got the 0715 (323236) from Congleton this morning and ‘passed’ (stopped along side to rescue passengers from) the broken train. (Some pics below)

    Northern Stoke-on-Trent line on Sundays

They still call: 0557 Birmingham - Manchester (Mon-Sat) 1727 Manchester - Bournemouth (Saturday only) 1827 Manchester - Bournemouth (Mon-Sat) Surely it should be northern's responsibility for Sundays as they had the franchise commitment. Also if XC do Sunday calls that doesn't improve the...

Late first and early last trains are pretty minor issues compared to 4 HOUR gaps between services....

    Northern Stoke-on-Trent line on Sundays

Ahh, comes down to resources again. Stoke line is mostly one unit yes, a 323 for the early MAN-SOT and back (10:30 from SOT-MAN) then all the rest by the same 331 shuttling between the two. A Stoke-Macc shuttle would use fewer units but wouldn't serve Prestbury - Bramhall.

    Requirement for paid for Hotel?

I said ask not demand. There's a difference. PI/Travelodge were examples.

    Northern Stoke-on-Trent line on Sundays

Excellent points. The removal of the franchise commitment due to the OLR was a major reason I wanted (and would still prefer) Arriva to stay on. Surely if they want to 'tick a box' of a franchise commitment then the Stoke line, featuring larger places, would be a better choice? Has the fact that...

    Requirement for paid for Hotel?

Thanks for the responses. A quick google brings up a minimum of £216 for a taxi from Newcastle to Congleton. I doubt nearby Premier Inns or Travelodges would've cost that much! I would certainly have been asking for a hotel as it'd be far more pleasant than 4-5 hours in a taxi.

    May 2020 timetable changes

That is not a good service at all and Lincolnshire in general don't seem to get very good rail services: Some points however: Congleton has a higher population than Skegness Skegness gets more Sunday departures in the summer period where it increases to 9 each way (still rubbish really but...

    Northern Stoke-on-Trent line on Sundays

It's been mentioned but Northern have had a franchise commitment to provide an hourly service commencing December 2017. It's not a case of there not being a market, it's a case of Northern not being able to deliver their service level commitments. CrossCountry are not required to call on...

    Northern Stoke-on-Trent line on Sundays

The masses will be going to Manchester though, if you miss the first train from Macclesfield your wait is 18m, miss that too and it's a 28m wait. If you miss the first service from Congleton you have to wait 60 minutes, miss the second and you'll be waiting 2h 55m (Later in the day gaps...

    Northern Stoke-on-Trent line on Sundays

Just ignoring the fact that your example of Aberystwyth being rubbish? I’ll ask again if congleton gaining an hourly service has some kind of negative affect on you? For the record: Congleton’s population is less than half of Macclesfield’s... it’s not that much smaller. Why does Styal or...
