Train hits cow near Lydney 03-09-2016

Happened about a fortnight ago down at Nailsea - two cows that time. It was "one hell of a bang" according to a passenger I spoke to!

Unable to reply to Revenue Protection letter

Which again is irrelevant to the OP, who after boarding (legitematly or not) without a ticket, attempted to short-fare on arrival at their destination.

Yea, that would work. I don't know if that's the plan, though! :D

Severn (rail) Tunnel Closure September/October 2016

GWR Cardiff TM's will be working them. They sign 15X's. ATW drivers do some of the unt work for GWR, they might be driving them. It is usually an ATW driver on the first/last to and from Bristol (but I don't know if they sign Charfield). I don't know if any catering is planned, but the...

Severn (rail) Tunnel Closure September/October 2016

I have heard (but not seen in writing) there will be two units stabled in Canton, doing a Cdf-GCR-Bri 06.28 and Swansea-Gloucester-Bristol, possibly 7.28. Not sure on stops. What they return as, I have no idea. As I said, this is not 100%, just Messroom chat.

    Jeremy Corbyn's Traingate

True. When I heard that, I thought if you are not assertive enough to ask somebody to move their bag off a seat to allow you to sit down, should you really be saying you can run the country?

    Jeremy Corbyn's Traingate

No, Jeremy, out of his own choice, was sitting on the floor in a vestibule. Something most (but not all) passengers don't do when there is the option of sitting in a seat, like Jeremy had. The reality for the vast majority of passengers travelling Standard Class is that they get a seat.

    SPAD Procedure

I once worked a train which had a SPAD (by about ten foot, I believe). There was poor rail conditions and we slid past the signal. What I remember most about it was seeing the driver when we (eventually) reached the next station. The poor sod was the most miserable looking individual I have...

    Jeremy Corbyn's Traingate

I will frequently work commuter trains where passengers complain they are "ram-packed" (in the carriages nearest to the station entrance) - but they are unwilling to move a few carriages along to the one with forty empty seats I announced (and told them about face-to-face)...

Southern DOO: ASLEF members vote 79.1% for revised deal

If the TOC/RSSB are offering evidence that the indivdual was following industry guidelines, it makes it a lot harder for the CPS to proceed against the individual. And proceeding against a public utility is a different ballgame, as then it becomes a corporate prosecution, which is going to need...

Unable to reply to Revenue Protection letter

I am under the impression that in a few months, Penalty Fares will be applied to passengers travelling without tickets on GWR services from stations in South Wales where GWR trains call, and facilities to buy are available. Announcements saying that Penalty Fares apply to GWR trains are being...

Southern DOO: ASLEF members vote 79.1% for revised deal

The Criminal Protection Service are well known for only going after the low hanging fruit (except in exceptional circumstances). If they know that a TOC will mount a vigerous defence of a driver because their policies might be brought under scrutiny, it's too much hassle for an uncertain...
