Totally agree that it should be in there. Which is why i'm confused as to why it isn't.

    GTR staff benefits

Odd that it is definitely not in the contract that I was sent when I started.

Must be a new addition. What section number of the contract is it in ? I can't find a Sole Employment section in the contract I signed with them

That's strange. There was nothing in my GTR contract that stated I needed to declare a secondary employment.

But if there is nothing to suggest your commuting for another job (eg travelling wearing another uniform) I cannot see how anyone can tell/prove that you're not travelling for leisure purposes.

That's pretty helpful for the OP. So just to confirm, a TfL Staff Oyster is not valid between New Barnet and Finsbury Park on the GTR/GN network ?

    GTR staff benefits

Unless you're travelling in a non-gtr uniform, I can't see how any revenue inspectors would even know you're using your staff pass for residential travel for another job.

That's interesting to know as I thought TfL staff just had an oystercard that was accepted any route that accepted payg/season ticket oystercards. So technically a TfL member of staff couldn't travel from St Pancras to Finsbury Park on a Thameslink service ? Or from Kings Cross to Crews Hill ...

I also note in my diary when I last drove over a rarely-used part of the route / rarely-used siding. That way you know when your competency is about to lapse. Apparently the company's competence management computer system keeps an eye on this, but can't see how it can possibly know if I've been...

That's a very diligent way of doing it - I scrawl notes on my diagram for that same purpose.

i thought TfL staff only got to travel free as far as the London Oyster Cards read. I wasn't aware of any free travel reciprocal agreement between Tfl/GTR. Although you can get a PTAC Oyster which gives you 75% off Underground/Overground/TfL rail services (not TfL buses though). Don't know much...

Most popular TOC/Depots for driving trains ?

Inner work is pretty boring and intense (reckon you could do 100 stops in a shift). As someone said earlier it might be considered less risk as less route/traction knowledge needed and only one length train (apart from a 2x717 into kings cross). Outers is more interesting, but even then it's...

Most popular TOC/Depots for driving trains ?

What would you like to know ? 2 Links: Outer: 700/387/365 - Kings Cross - Cambridge inc. Cambridge sidings (With Hertford Diversionary) Inner: 717 - Moorgate/Kings Cross - Baldock (via Main line or Hertford) And for the purpose of this thread, the inner link is definitely not a popular one.

Driver - Personal Protection Strategies (PPS)

Sadly no longer the case on 700/717. Setting DRA results in air brake application only, therefore you lose regen/rheostatic braking effect. (Why any train design engineer would think that setting a DRA should reduce the amount of braking you get was a good idea is beyond me - especially on a...

    GTR 2020 Uniform Guide

Don't order the long sleeve jumper, the material is very coarse and will irritate your arms regardless of how much softener you've tried to use on it. Apparently, they're looking at new jumpers but don't know when we might see those. Also seem to remember you might need to order one size...

NEW 06/03/2020 Thameslink / Great Northern Trainee driver advert for LDN Hornsey & Brighton depots!

Also expect to be in training for a very very long time. There are no Driving Instructors at Hornsey, and only a handful at Welwyn and Hitchin (the other depots that do the same routes as Hornsey). The diagrams are probably the most intense, which is why you see that nobody actually wants to...

Do not travel! [Kings Cross weekend closures Jan/Feb 2020]

So will this be the last weekend long closure of the ECML in and out of King's Cross for a while or will Network Rail need more in the near future ? The calendar/publicity suggests this is the last one but maybe they've only published info up to the May timetable change ?

    Great Northern Disruption Today (17/02)

I'm sure it wouldn't have been that bad if drivers were still able to sign multiple routes and traction, rather than the de-skilling that is now in place post December 2019 timetable. It's frustrating waiting at a platform seeing a train you could've driven 2 months ago stuck at Finsbury Park...

    Freightliner Various Trainee Drivers

I wouldn't see it as unfair to be asked for another example, but do see it as unfair to be dictated to as to what to use as an example.
