Dominic Cummings alleged breach of lockdown rules discussion

He traveled whilst him and his wife were symptomatic from what I understand. They likely stopped at a service station and I am reading they took their son to a hospital up there. How on earth do you know he didn't directly spread it? As for other people using him as a defense - surely my point...

Dominic Cummings alleged breach of lockdown rules discussion

Errr which is precisely why people are having a go a Cummings for doing what he did. His actions could well have helped spread the virus, and given people are now using him as a defense for breaking lockdown rules and guidelines, his actions could well further spread the virus even now.

Dominic Cummings alleged breach of lockdown rules discussion

One major difference is that I do not believe Kinnock was not supposed to be self isolating after having Coronavirus symptoms at the time! Remember two other people involved in the UK's reaction to the virus (Dr Catherine Calderwood and Professor Neil Ferguson) did resign after breaking the rules.

Pedestrianisation of streets to assist with social distancing

IIRC, wasn't it Westminster council that canned it, rather than TfL?

Dominic Cummings alleged breach of lockdown rules discussion

It was not a mistake at all. Maybe, just maybe, the initial isolating up North was. I don't think it was but I can see it making some kind of sense. But driving 30 miles to a known beauty spot / tourist hotspot around the time of his wife's birthday to "check his eyesight and to make sure he was...

Dominic Cummings alleged breach of lockdown rules discussion

We absolutely should be expecting someone who helped form the rules and guidance to actually know the rules and guidance better than the rest of us.

Coronavirus: How scared should we be?

I have a feeling some people on this thread are confusing the word "scared" with "sensible" or "cautious". Indeed it is the same kind of tone that was used by a lot of people who didn't pay any attention to the lockdown to begin with. Suggesting that people don't travel half way across the...

Dominic Cummings alleged breach of lockdown rules discussion

I mean, one of the most senior advisers to government (and arguably the person with the most power in the country atm) ignoring government advice that he was helping to shape and potentially breaking the law, is something many people would care about and is a pretty important thing in itself surely?

First South West and Wales discussion

From what my friend just put on Facebook, some buses in Bath have that done too now (I think this is new unless I have missed anything in this thread!). Not that people are paying attention to it though :(

My opinion: children are safer if they are attending school

One thing to consider, that I don't think many people have mentioned, is opening schools will increase travel by quite a lot. It isn't just the kids to think about here. So even if we say children don't spread it or don't get (too) ill from it, teachers and other staff travelling to schools...

Will the RDG extend Railcard Validity due to Covid-19

If something is done, I hope it isn't a renewal discount! I'm going to be renewing my 26-30 railcard tomorrow for the last time, as regardless of the current situation, I am 30 later this week and so won't be able to get another years validity if I wait until after that! How much of the validity...

Is it time to relax the 2m social distancing guideline? (WHO guidance is 1m)

Maybe I am too optimistic in thinking that people have brains and can think for themselves then!

Long term social distancing: Impact on public life & public transport?

Isn't that the fault of those people being idiots though? Not sure you can blame the government for people stepping into roads without looking! The problem is once you say you can do it, those buses and trains won't be empty! It is the same reason why things like national parks and beauty...

Is it time to relax the 2m social distancing guideline? (WHO guidance is 1m)

As much as I'd love to pin something else on a Tory government, I am really not sure you can with this. People should use their damn brains and know not to jump out infront of oncoming traffic.

Cloth masks, scarves and bandanas to be 'encouraged' with no compulsion

Presumably you are talking specifically about disabilities such as respiratory conditions where wearing a mask would further impede breathing or other facial conditions that would make wearing a mask difficult? Because I can't think of that the others (sexuality, gender, pregnancy, race, sexual...

Cloth masks, scarves and bandanas to be 'encouraged' with no compulsion

In many ways, that isn't really true though. The government and most public bodies have to cater for most of the population. For private companies, as long as they aren't basing their decisions on a protected characteristic, they can do pretty much anything (e.g. shops and pubs etc can refuse to...

Ideas to reopen the leisure & tourism sectors if social distancing is to continue

I am really hoping this is one of the things that does happen after this. Thankfully I work in a place that was already sensible when it comes to people being ill, but far too many places still see taking time off for being ill as something that needs to be punished. You only just have to see...

Conservative MP calls for Welsh Assembly to be scrapped so people can visit beach

I grew up there hence why I suggested the geography may well have an impact. I still wouldn't call the village I grew up in urban though, nor would the majority of the people who live there. Interesting comparison to Italy though, I hadn't made that link myself!

Transport for London will "declare itself bankrupt" by end of today (14 May 2020) without emergency finance

Since a few people have mentioned it - where on earth does this idea that public transport is cheap in London come from? Buses aside, local tube and rail travel is pretty much comparable to the rest of the country last time I checked, and is actually pretty expensive when compared to other...

Conservative MP calls for Welsh Assembly to be scrapped so people can visit beach

I certainly wouldn't call the valleys urban - especially when compared to Cardiff, Newport and English cities like Bristol and Birmingham etc. And you could easily make the same point about the same rules being applied in different parts of England that are differently affected, so I am not...
