TOC plans regarding advance tickets if destinations become no-go (Coronavirus)?

Looks like Southeastern now also refunding advance tickets.

    Transport for Wales Seat Reservations

I just tweeted them and they replied instantly saying it was possible and asking me to DM them, so lets see.

    Transport for Wales Seat Reservations

Just tried to reserve seats Shrewsbury to Aberystwyth and return on advance tickets and was told it was impossible by London Charing Cross. Why do TfW sell advance tickets without seat reservations on a train on which reservations are available?!

    Dangerous Driving?

Not sure why people are getting so antsy about me posing this question. The vast majority of people using a heritage railway are not enthusiasts. I imagine quite a few might be perturbed by seeing the driver leave the controls, even if this is actually safe.

    Caledonian Sleeper

Ah, I meant the station lounge, but nevertheless the above is very good to know! Seems like same kind of arrangement as on old stock re lounge car access.

    Caledonian Sleeper

Just booked my first trip on the new sleeper to Aberdeen. Two classic rooms with single occupancy - £128 for one single (Senior Railcard) and £195 for the other single. Not cheap! Bit miffed to read after I book (my fault I admit) that this no longer includes lounge access and that the spare bed...

    York to Geneva journey

Remember that Eurostar have to pay a fee to Eurotunnel per passenger they transport through the tunnel. If memory serves me correctly it’s about £30. So it’s never going to get much cheap than that for the public price.

    Caledonian Sleeper tickets

I ended up doing two separate bookings and completing neither, I guess its still possible they are in different fare buckets, though I was offered the same berth each time.

    Caledonian Sleeper

Was planning to take this in May/June to Aberdeen but a return in even a classic room is £415! That's just nuts! See separate thread in fares advice...

    Caledonian Sleeper tickets

Trying to book two people on this in May, London to Aberdeen. Out on the 28th and returning on the 3rd June. Classic room, but one person per room. One of us doesn't have a railcard and one has a senior railcard. If you book both tickets together it doesn't show you what the two fares are...

    Dangerous Driving?

Doesn’t have to be a child. While I take your point, I’m never going to feel 100% comfortable with a train being in motion and there being no one at the controls! Why can’t the train stop for token collection? It’s not as if speed is of the essence on a heritage line.

    Dangerous Driving?

I still wonder what would happen if a child, animal or object was on the tracks - you wouldn't have time to react and even at that speed could still do significant damage. Sorry to be a H+S bore...

    Dangerous Driving?

Just doesn’t seem very safe to me for a driver to leave the controls of a moving train, even if it’s just 5-10 seconds.

    Dangerous Driving?

No one else was in the cab, no. There was a guard but he was in the other carriage.

    Dangerous Driving?

I’ve just taken a trip on a heritage railway which I won’t name for now. I was on a DMU and everytime the driver needed to pick up a token he left his seat while the train was still in motion to pick it up from the other side of the train. During this time the train had no one at the controls...

    VIA suspends all services

They are building a new pipeline across indigenous lands and there are protests as a result. Not sure why they are targeting CN but shutting all passenger trains down makes for quite an effective protest I guess!

    VIA suspends all services

CN has shut down all its lines across Canada as a result of the protests against the new pipeline - as a result Via has suspended all services. https://www.theglobeandmail.com/business/article-cn-shuts-eastern-canada-train-network-via-rail-halts-passenger/

Acela 2 on its way to testing

Not very aesthetically pleasing for above reason. What's the thinking (or lack of) behind different loco/carriage profiles? Unusual to see a painted Amtrak train too.

    Aberdeen - Inverness £170m Upgrade

Thanks. If it was once double, why do tunnels etc need widening?
