Additional retailers to reopen from June 15th

I also read that. Totally pointless, how will they know whether or not the staff putting them back on the shelves after 3 days are infected or not? Catching COVID from a book seems.to be to be stretching credulity in any case.

Face coverings compulsory on public transport in England from 15 June

If I was issued with a fine on the basis that I'd momentarily moved enough of my covering to sip some water I would not pay it. I'm pretty confident a court of law would apply some sense. Define "wear a face covering". You might not even need to remove it to drink, just pull it aside a little.

Face coverings compulsory on public transport in England from 15 June

I think we can already say this measure will have zero impact on R. Trains and buses are carrying nothing but fresh air at the moment. There can be little to no transmission happening in public transport at present, because nobody is using public transport. More people on public transport will...

Face coverings compulsory on public transport in England from 15 June

Just tell them you have asthma. They have to take that at face value, it's not like they can demand to see your medical records. I will put a scarf over my face as a token gesture. I suspect it'll be uncomfortable and I'll then remove it and see if I get challenged. "Asthma" might be my response...

Face coverings compulsory on public transport in England from 15 June

Of course not! You just remove it for a minute or two to eat or drink. Nobody is going to be fining anybody for daring to eat a sandwich or have a drink. I don't like this edict at all - in fact I think it's absurd the government has gone from telling us masks aren't effective to all of a sudden...

    Impact on Universities in September

Gloves are pointless. As soon as you touch your nose or mouth or rub your eye or sneeze or blow your noise they are no longer sterile. Making people use hand sanitizer when entering would be just as effective.

Face coverings compulsory on public transport in England from 15 June

Yes yes yes! It's clear supermarkets have done their best, but the people running them aren't healthcare professionals or epidemiologists. Stupid one way systems increase the amount of time I'm in there, so increases the risk of transmission. And it just leads to lots of petty arguments when...

Face coverings compulsory on public transport in England from 15 June

Oh for goodness sake, of course you can remove it for a moment to have a drink.

    Impact on Universities in September

Feel for you buddy. Don't tell yourself your going to get lower grades, that won't help, keep positive. I failed 13 out of 14 exams in my second year. Uni offered me the chance to resit in phases and redo the year if necessary but I chose to transfer because I convinced myself I would never...

    Impact on Universities in September

Agree. I stuffed up my first degree after 2 years and transferred direct into the second year of a different course at a different institution. Long story, but it boiled down to not enough of a social life first time around. If I hadn't had the good fortune to join a couple really good societies...

    Island Line visit

Looking at an OS map there are footpaths through the countryside. Sandown aren't letting people off the airfield at present. My son and I went to Bembridge on Friday and walked to the beach. That involved only a few hundred yards of road walking, but that was scary enough. I wouldn't walk long...

    Island Line visit

Thanks or the info, appreciated. I will be flying in to Bembridge hence starting/ending at Brading which is a shortish walk from the airfield, so an Island Rover looks like the ticket for me. Now I just have to hope the 1938 stock holds out long enough for me to sample it. Will also try and wait...

    Island Line visit

Hi guys, Before COVID came along, I promised myself that I would have a trip to the Isle of Wight to have a ride in the 1938 stock before it's too late. I'm thinking of doing this in the next couple of months or so. A cursory look at SWR website tells me there is an hourly service. It also...

Will you follow the advice on face coverings?

There's very little evidence for this statement. The masks4all site that you pushed in earlier posts has some graphs which support their agenda - apparent big falls in infection rates from selected countries that enforced mask wearing Vs no falls in countries that haven't. But they are now over...

Will you follow the advice on face coverings?

Precisely. That isn't the world I want to love in or want my kids to live in. It's one of the reasons I'm completely against wearing masks outside of clinical settings. If they weren't completely pointless I might feel a little differently.

    Reading to Paddington record

Correct. Kinetic energy increases with the square of speed. Therefore the energy input between 100 and 125mph is more than 50% of the energy input to get from 0 to 100mph. And that's before we factor in rolling and aerodynamic resistance which will be eating up a considerable portion of the...

    Reading to Paddington record

I paid northern prices in central London in March. £1.45 a pint in the Red Lion near Liberty's.

Will you follow the advice on face coverings?

I will not wear a mask or other face covering. I am totally unconvinced that they are effective other than to make the public feel that "something" is being done. They are also horrible to wear for any significant period of time. I have noticed week on week that less people are in masks on my...

    Renfe scrapping all sleeper services

That's really sad news. I used the Paris to Madrid service back in 2011. I know that one stopped a few years ago, bit when I used it it was very busy and an excellent service.

Dominic Cummings alleged breach of lockdown rules discussion

If the visit to the woods he describes on the way back from Barnard Castle is to explain his being sighted in Houghall Woods, he's lying. Barnard Castle to Durham would not take you past Houghall Woods. I know the area very well.
