    Eurostar and the virus

That's not true at all. The air circulated on a train comes from the air outside the vehicle and is renewed non-stop.

LNER reservation compulsory from 18 May! (Update: other TOCs limiting capacity but not requiring reservations)

On Avanti 25% of the "Socially distanced" seats are kept for passengers without a reservation. On LNER they are holding the seats in coach C without reservation, but I gather these are primarily intended for passing TOC staff etc. Either way this isn't being enforced thankfully.

Out with credit-card sized stock and in with mobile ticketing - is it too early?

You can do this via the Chiltern app by selecting smartcard when you purchase your tickets - much better than an "e-ticket." On the off chance you don't use a railcard you may also want to check out Tap2Go for journeys on SWR. That way you can just use your smart card like Oyster across the SWR...

    Train Sim World 2

If this was their new Unreal Engine 5/PS5 version that would last another 3 years then I'd be happy to buy it (still on PC of course). But if they're intending to make this an annual thing then I may pass until they actually add some real new features. Honestly with UE5 and the new generation of...

Out with credit-card sized stock and in with mobile ticketing - is it too early?

This is the obvious solution and Eurostar already so this. I don't get why you can't just do this with domestic tickets, that would solve all the problems.

    Impact on Universities in September

After being infected with Covid-19 the death rate for those under 25 is thought to be less than <0.01% with < 30 having died (most likely all with pre-existing conditions). This will go down as one of the most colossal overreactions in history. Not ideal but for first year's surely they could...

LNER reservation compulsory from 18 May! (Update: other TOCs limiting capacity but not requiring reservations)

They are actually considering this in New York https://www.timeout.com/newyork/news/the-mta-could-consider-a-reservation-only-system-for-nycs-subways-and-buses-051320 But I do agree with your point this is unworkable for many types of journey, and would make LNER unusable for many as an...

What travel is currently allowed by the legislation?

They can't as that is explicitly permitted by the legislation  https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2020/350/regulation/6

What travel is currently allowed by the legislation?

You can, it's just GWR are discouraging people to, but they will still allow you to travel.

LNER reservation compulsory from 18 May! (Update: other TOCs limiting capacity but not requiring reservations)

That assumes that 1. the passenger knew what train they going to catch and 2. They used a TIS with a journey planner and 3. Nothing altered their plans or delayed them. 1 and 2 are rarely the case with me and that solution requires a fully charged phone and to use paid data which many people...

LNER reservation compulsory from 18 May! (Update: other TOCs limiting capacity but not requiring reservations)

LNER's solution appears to be that they que at the travel centre to get a reservation for the next train :!: And I assume they will be paying for hotels as obliged to if there's no more trains that day (Not - in reality they will probably suddenly not need a reservation).

LNER reservation compulsory from 18 May! (Update: other TOCs limiting capacity but not requiring reservations)

https://www.nationalrail.co.uk/service_disruptions/today.aspx?utm_source=nre&utm_medium=yellowbanner&utm_campaign=coronavirus-revisedservice&utm_term=coronavirus I really hope this is only temporary, Realtime Trains is showing this on WTT schedules for this period which as someone who used LNER...

Herd immunity and risk characteristics of 'healthy' people

I'm aware R0 is an average as I actually mentioned in my first post. I wouldn't swear by everything I posted earlier and I'm aware this is a massive over-simplification of reality, but if you think it works differently please elaborate. Chester1 has provided a very good explanation of my points...

Herd immunity and risk characteristics of 'healthy' people

Even if the RO did fall below 1 (which doesn't seem very likely considering that only 28% of people live alone in the UK) it would only take 1 case to cause an entire 2nd wave which could just cause a continuous cycle for maybe 5 years or so until herd immunity is achieved. (Also either way it's...

Herd immunity and risk characteristics of 'healthy' people

No, but doing it right now is a little worrying. The growth is exponential so assuming the infection rate is still (averages) each infected person infects 2 others and that everyone they infect is within the first 2 weeks before they self-isolate themselves it would take 50 weeks from the first...

Herd immunity and risk characteristics of 'healthy' people

Quite it seems almost nobody understands that herd immunity is still and always was the plan, it's just not seen as politically acceptable to spell this out. The only way life can go back to normal is when >50% of the population is immune, this could be through infections or a vaccine, but...

How to find permitted routes, and smart cards with multiple TOC's

Permitted routes are determined by the Routing Guide (http://data.atoc.org/routeing-guide) but it's rather complicated. The inter-TOC-usability is the same on smartcards as the equivalent paper tickets so you may use any TOC with an any permitted ticket.
