    The £100m bat shed

It’s reached the Guardian (post#1) and the Times, that I’ve seen. Their headlines will disappoint you though…

Things in living memory which seem very anachronistic now

I think the request procedure in the RN was to allow them to check you could actually grow a ‘full set” relatively quickly. While someone was initially growing a beard perhaps they were hidden away… o_O

Transpennine Route Upgrade and Electrification updates

I’ve often wondered how the planning regime allowed for the long use of the ‘temporary’ NR offices alongside the Waterloo East approaches, do they not have a ‘use by date’?

Two black bands on platform lamp posts..

I think when they first did this it was a blue vinyl tape?

    The £100m bat shed

In an alternative universe, if the fans of reopening the GC had had their way, (I think including Bucks CC), would the introduction of modern high speed services on the GC route, (say at 125 mph), not require a degree of bat mitigation in the same area anyway? I can’t believe that bats are...

    The £100m bat shed

Wasn’t there a supposed “bat issue” with Chiltern and Wolvercot tunnel? Extra precautions had to be taken, but did the bats just leave anyway?

802207 Hitachi testing battery power for Transpennine

I was only trying to point out that I think Rail should have made it clearer that it was only one of three engines. We don’t know yet if they intend to try a full battery EMU with no diesel power, I think a few posts might be getting ahead of the reality.

    RMT report about Trainline

Haven’t people been caught out by having splits that included a random advance in amongst the singles that effectively fixed their travel time, but they’d wanted a flexible fare?

802207 Hitachi testing battery power for Transpennine

To be more accurate, shouldn’t RAIL have written “replacing one of its three diesel engines with a battery”?

    MML Electrification: progress updates

When this was discussed back in May I thought it would be odd if it was replaced, given its original use as an accommodation bridge seemed unnecessary. It leads to the national grid compound that now has its own decent road from the local public highway. It didn’t carry a public right of way, as...

    The £100m bat shed

It’s on the 2016 plan of the Calvert route section. Labelled as “Sheephouse Wood Mitigation Structure” without the word ‘bat’, if anyone wants to check the location. Also presumably covers the future Aylesbury single line, so will be quite wide...

Royal Mail to cease using trains

Post #319 originally noted it was the 3 motor/pantograph coaches from 6/7/13 that had gone to EMR Glasgow.

Royal Mail to cease using trains

I don’t think anyone knows. It isn't as though they’re running many services. Maybe the post office know what they’re doing…

A scam phone calls and emails discussion.

My last ‘loft insulation’ scammer claimed he was calling to follow up his colleague’s previous call. I asked him what part of “f%#k off” did his colleague misunderstand...

Photo puzzle 2 - crowds waving off WW1 “Terriers” near unidentified station

I think it’s little changed, the roof looks different (lower) because of the much closer viewpoint. If you set up a longer distance view on Google from roughly where the station was, the roof and chimneys are the same.

Central / Victoria poor interchange experience at Oxford Circus

I always thought it was intentionally designed that way for the Waterloo to Kings Cross benefits, ie to relieve the previously advertised Northern/Piccadilly line route. (Although IIRC they never updated the overhead coloured lights signing recommended cross-London interchange routes.)

Is Burnham able to directly fund the TOC? Or is he suggesting DfT pay this?

Midland Metro: car on the tracks at St Chads (06/11)

Oh thanks, it’s not too clear what it is on the satellite view. So in the dark it might feel more like like a smooth surface?

Yes. That’s the wording found in an earlier thread here: https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/what-happened-to-ethel.126574/#post-2457169
