Crosscountry delay repay complications: split tickets, multiple bookings

It doesn't answer the questions posed in the OP, but I was about to post here how surprisingly efficient I found XC's delay repay to be - first time I'd submitted a claim to XC in some years, so nothing recent to compare it with, but I submitted the claim on Thursday, it was assessed Friday and...

Lack of train crew on Great Northern?

Yes, looks like some very unpleasant wind Friday night/Saturday morning, and quite possibly continuing down south for pretty much most of the weekend. Ugh. Either that's developed quite quickly or I've been paying less attention to the weather models this week than usual - perhaps a bit of...

Lack of train crew on Great Northern?

Incoming train to form the 0948 from Ely was 25+ late this morning so I fully expected it to be turned at Cambridge as usual. But, just for once, they kept it running to Ely and had the 0948 leave a few minutes late. Which is what they should normally do, but they usually don't. Still, a...

Lack of train crew on Great Northern?

Agree with all of that. One of the reasons I moved to Ely (other than the fact it is a lovely place to live!) was the mix of TOCs and electric/diesel services available, which in combination usually means something is running eventually. It regularly gets turned short at Cambridge to form the...

Lack of train crew on Great Northern?

I was still asleep in bed at 0835, so I'm not sure how that would have helped. By the time I was awake and checked what was running, it was too late to get the 0917 or indeed (just) the 0931. And later isn't especially helpful in this case - unless my work are happy with me showing up over an...

Lack of train crew on Great Northern?

The problem there is the missing 0739 from Kings Cross, ie. 0835 from Cambridge. That gap meant nothing was at Kings Lynn to form the 0942, ie. the 1018 from Ely. With the cancellations of the Ely terminators immediately before and after, that left a 2 hour gap in Ely->Cambridge GN services...

Lack of train crew on Great Northern?

As usual, they *claimed* to have set up a Cambridge-Kings Lynn shuttle, though the 2-hour gap in southbound trains from Ely (0948, 1018, 1046 all cancelled) shows that this was just about as successful as whenever else they've claimed to do that recently during disruption. I'm sure they used to...

Lack of train crew on Great Northern?

I was in Central London briefly yesterday, and can confirm it was incredibly busy everywhere, even by 'weekend before Christmas' standards. I gave up and came home early. It will be 'interesting' to see what GN manage to run next weekend - other than the Remembrance Sunday weekend, it is the...

    Storm Bert Saturday 23rd November

Yes, mine was cancelled this morning, one of those days where it would have been useful if XC stopped at Cambridge North. Fortunately the following ex-Lynn did run and was only a bit late, as the northbound that otherwise would have conflicted on the single-line runs was also rather late so...

    Storm Bert Saturday 23rd November

Looks like a carbon copy of what happened in February 2022 - considerable disruption, going on for quite some time, apparently due to multiple fallen trees north of Broxbourne and south of Audley End. Is there something unusual about this bit of line that this keeps on happening when we get an...

Lack of train crew on Great Northern?

I found that, yes - just saying that would have been an improvement. Obviously *I* have internet access but, despite the fact that the railway assumes this in so many ways nowadays, it still seems unreasonable to assume everyone does. Agreed, but, well, GTR, so expectations aren't high. I...

Routing Guide Map ME via Bidston?

Yes to all of that :-( Certainly I've gone this way before on a Cambrldge-Liverpool ticket, which last time I checked was a totally valid route. Very rubbish that people starting around the Birmingham area can no longer do so.

Routing Guide Map ME via Bidston?

I hadn't noticed this before - why *are* all these tickets restricted to via Crewe? Even (for example) Birmingham -> Rock Ferry is, when surely Birmingham -> Wolverhampton -> Shrewsbury -> Chester -> Rock Ferry would be a perfectly reasonable route to expect to be able to take?

Great Northern Fleet - 379s introduction

Though it will be a big deal for Ely/Kings Lynn commuters and leisure travellers if services currently run by 387s are now run by deeply-unsuitable-for-those-services 700s, as hinted above. Saturdays are already cursed by too many 700 diagrams at Ely over the past couple of years, we really...

Lack of train crew on Great Northern?

Yes - and having an actual cliff-edge at 100k for many people is deeply unhelpful. A sensible tax system has you always getting more net when your gross pay increases, even as you move up the bands. A stupid one is where people are *actually* worse off at 101k than at 99k, which is currently...

Lack of train crew on Great Northern?

It's been going on since GTR took over just over 10 years ago, and they've never got on top of it, despite inital promises of a massive driver recruitment campaign. It does seem particularly poor right now though. Tomorrow especially, given that this is the only weekend in October/November...

London Paddington Elizabeth Line gateline ticket barriers.

As do I, in my case discounted with a Gold Card. It's remarkably tedious and no other Elizabeth Line gateline appears to have the same issue. I've pointed this out to the gateline staff a number of times over the last couple of years, but I don't imagine that actually gets fed back to anyone.

Nottingham Station: Access to platforms from footbridge

Nottingham already needed a bridge further to the east than this to make transferring between platforms easier. This will make things considerably worse still - rather like Newport, but even more irritating. Surely there is a better solution?

    Longest scheduled stop?

Not quite the longest, but the Crewe -> Manchester Piccadilly via the airport services all seem to have 15 minutes allocated at the airport. Which must be very tedious for people travelling from Styal to Manchester, as these are the only services they get, and means the journey time from Styal...

    Kings Dyke level crossing, Whittlesey

Sounds a bit worrying for the railway too. Having had to do a rail replacement bus between Peterborough and Ely a couple of times recently shows just how useful the railway is (and/or how poor and indirect the roads are) around here. -- It does seem a bit bizarre ('who knew the ground in the...
