    HS2 Old Oak Common

Business is the art of managing risk. The question is does the reward justify the risk.

Why is Wi-Fi limited and so poor?

When the government sold the part of the radio spectrum for use in mobile networks (GSM specifically) they were a little foolish in that they required the bidders to commit to covering something like 94% (from memory) of the population within an agreed period. However, the government lawyers...

    Trivia: Easily confused station names

A good few years ago I need to go down to London (from Norfolk) and the TOC at the time were having issues with their website, so I was forced to use their call centre to order a ticket. I had a great deal of difficultly trying to convince the nice lady that Liverpool Street and Liverpool Lime...

East-West Rail (EWR): Consultation updates [not speculation]

I assume by 'complete chaos' they mean some disruption

Trivia: Nice International underground mainline stations

Copenhagen airport station is quite nice....if a big chilly sometimes

    Alexandra Dock Junction disused sidings

That's pretty impressive. Just to satisfy my curiosity, what was the main traffic? I presume coal would have been at least some of it.

    Werrington grade separation updates

Some of them are GPS controlled so maybe that?

OLE Renewals - Anglia (GE, LTS etc.)

I'm no expert but was born close to the LTS. AIUI, it was a mix of 6.25/25Kv for many years, the sometime in the 80's it all got upgraded, as did the somewhat knackered class 302 units. Hope that's of interest.

    Is GSM-R Safety Critical equipment?

IMHO PKI is well past its sell by date. Slightly off topic so apologies for that. If anyone is interested in cyber security maybe another thread specifically about that would help.

Class 769 for London Gateway freight trial

maybe someone with a bit of vision could come up with an electric delivery vehicle for the 'last mile' but actually owned by the railway. something like this might do the job https://www.flickr.com/photos/dok1/5261222494/

East-West Rail (EWR): Consultation updates [not speculation]

I think the OP was suggesting that export potential was one of the justifications for trying unproven solutions, not that we made trams

Trivia: Largest stations by physical size?

Does the OP only want to list UK stations only? There are far bigger stations outside of the UK.

Forbidden from using power socket in station waiting room

There are lots of observations about conventions and what is or is not reasonable, but the overriding issue is the law, whether it is the railway bye-laws or statues. I'm afraid that the belief that just because something isn't labelled it entitles you to help yourself is false in terms of the...

Transpennine Route Upgrade and Electrification updates

According to the Examiner, Network Rail plan to 'double the width of the tracks'. Brunel would be delighted!

    Rail vulnerability

I work in cyber security. All I would say on a public forum is that you would need quite detailed knowledge of the 'attack surface' before planning something. This is not a Windows XP Pc, so much of the malware that's out there would not work. A half decent attacker (some of whom are state...

    Fenchurch Street redevelopment

A second entrance/exit which opens onto Crosswall opened a few years ago and that eased the traffic a little. It's not obvious what scope there is left without doing something quite significant. There is an over station office building so that opportunity has long been exported.

London Underground Housetop plate - anyone got a photo of one?

thanks for such a thorough explanation

London Underground Housetop plate - anyone got a photo of one?

So given a tight radius and the absence of the plate there is a risk that the wheel rides up as it tries to continue in a straight line and thus potentially causing a derailment?

London Underground Housetop plate - anyone got a photo of one?

Can I show my ignorance by asking what it does?

    Barking Refit

That would be my assumption, although from a customer experience point of view the platform level is pretty grim too.
